I beg to differ, Mr Caraprof the definition of inference is: The act or process of deriving conclusions from premises assumed to be true.

I am not sure what assumptions you have made about me, or from where you have derived your conclusions.

Are you now making the rather rash assumptions that all gypsies are thieves? Would you like to attempt justify that statement?

As for telling fortunes, yes, actually I do. It has been a tradition in my family for many years and we do tend to be uncannily accurate.

Syd,

I support your actions and fully understand the need in a society where the dregs are routinely afforded greater rights than decent, hard-working citizens, not to mention unending support from the (sometimes tied) judiciary and welfare system.

The whole thing is on its head.

I too have, on three occasions now, wreaked summary justice, but never in circumstances where the people I have had to deal with know who I am or where I live.

I don’t think you have anything to fear from the Police as I’m sure when you asked for your cash back he became aggressive and tried to wallop you first.

However, does it worry you that the scrotum knows you?

For what it’s worth; inference is the activity performed by a reader in drawing conclusions that are not explicit in what is said.

Hope that helps.

Yes, we know that! I assumed that he was accusing me of implying something about him, but it turns out that he was actually complaining that I'd inferred something about him! Sometimes it's hard to judge if someone is using 'inferring' correctly - it's often used wrongly instead of 'implying', which is why I gave the other subject/object examples.

Yes, lots of them are thieves I'm afraid. It's a sad fact, but there you are. Some groups have different values from others. I'm sure that not every single gypsy is a thief, but if you were a gypsy I suspect that, from your recent lack of honesty in describing your profession, that you probably would be.

I've never liked gypsies since a visit to Madam Petrulenga, a fortune teller at Blackpool. She gazed into her crystal ball and pronounced that I would never father any children. Feeling very sad I handed over my money and, as she took it, her arm knocked the crystal ball, which rolled off the table and crushed my testicles.

That's very magnanimous of you, Caraprof.

I do like to pride myself on my use of the English language, and have had several articles published.

I can believe it my unbelievably bright amigo! There,s no one on this site with anything like your learning and intuition. No wonder your one of the countrys leading pysocho, pshogis, pscologism, oh hell, doctors who look after nut cases! (I don't have your wondeful way with words.)

While we,re such huge chums is there any chance of analysing that J9 bird? She,s really getting on my wick. I,m convinced she'll be stalking me soon!

Keep up the good work my cleverest of mates.

Warmest regards,

Dave

To get back on track ....

Syd, sorry for asking, but if you knew he was a little toe-rag, why did you let him get anywhere near the money????? I know it's easy to trust people but it sounds like this was a little bit silly ...

As for belting him, I can totally empathise with that, once is understandable, twice, well that's taking it a bit too far I'd say. Best to take some 'calm down' pills before you go to France ... just to be safe!!! :-S

Hi Mel

Sorry about the above post, I was distracted by my better half bringing me a cuppa.

I knew he was a towrag but I didnt know he was coming to the house, he was delivering something for either his mother or his Nana. Secondly I didnt know that my wife had not put the money away after I had been looking at it and left it lyeing around, my fault.

Im not in the least worried about him knowing where I live in fact I would very much like him to come around here again.

If you think about it, it was a lucky day for both of us. First I got my money back, which was actually 2880 euro's, and secondly he was taught a lesson that the service providers couldnt get across to him and to top it all he was allowed to live and continue poluting our envoronment.

Now how lucky can one get.

His mother and Nana live near me in this street and some friends of his but he won't dare to come and visit them for quiet some time.

Think we have talked this through now, roll on Saturday for my holiday

Beloved Professor,

I could see that you and he knew that, but wasn't sure if it was clear to anyone else that could be bothered to try to understand. Just trying to spread the love. Didn't mean to imply that you, or indeed la tortuga, were anything other than 'on it'. I wouldn't dare!

Hey, did I just reach out to you? That Oily newcomer must be a subliminal influence. I must say though I much preferred his doppelganger.

Syd,

Have a grand holiday.
