laimeduck
For those considering heading down to Spain this Autumn via the Pyrenees Atlantique route ... be aware of road problems. The Somport tunnel is closed for 6 months from September due to road damage caused by the recent heavy rains. The Portalet pass which I used a week ago had a 3500Kg limit imposed by overhead gantry signs from the Spanish side after Jaca. I chose to ignore the signs as I was not prepared to drive back towards the St Jean-Pied-de-Port pass. Many other over 3500kg motorhomes did the same coming from France to Spain. (Wearing Angles Mort stickers). We had no problems though. I have no idea if this limit was temporary? So the only "legal" border crossings on the Western Pyrenees appear to be the St Jean-Pied-de-Port pass (Ibanetta or Roncevales) or Irun. I imagine in poor Autumn weather, only Irun is viable?
