Motorhome manual required

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Mary.

This 2020 forum enquiry asked about getting a Manual for a 2005 Compass Avantgarde and may be worth reading.

If you go here

https://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/threads/compass-owners-manual.137623/?post_id=1090391&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-1090391

and click on the 1st of the attachments

a .pdf file for an old Compass motorhome manual should appear.

(I don't know how appropriate it might be for a 2001 Avantgarde, but the information in it definitely relates to elderly Compass models.)

In the 2020 forum thread I referred to earlier I suggested the Compass & Herald Motorhome Club (C&HMC) as a possible source of information - but I was far from confident even then that contacting that Club would prove productive.

The convoluted history of the C&HMC may be of interest (I was a member from 1999 to 2004).

https://compassandheraldmotorhomeclub.weebly.com/a-short-history-of-the-club.html

I'm not sure if the C&HMC is still active, but it's worth a try...

(As is so commonplace, there was no follow-up from tnygroves who, in 2020,  wanted a Manual for a 2005 Avantgarde - so it was never known what the outcome was.)

Owner Manuals for UK-built motorhomes marketed in the late-1990s/early-2000s tended to be generic and pretty skimpy. If the make/model of fridge, cooker/hob and heater/water-boiler of an early motorhome can be identified, plus the make/model of its electrical control-panel, it's often possible to find manufacturers' instructions online for those individual items that will be more comprehensive than the related advice in an Owner Manual.

Hi Derek

Sadly that's life , they may be still going as their site I think may be still operative. I personally have no contact with them but quite a few members within our club have and have nothing only praise for the club

Yes the manuals were a little skimpy back then to say the least but were very easy to read and diagrams were excellent and very easy for anyone to follow. Auto Sleeper manuals come to mind as been excellent for any owner of same back then as were many more motorhome models owners manual's of that era.

The C&HMC website still 'works' - so a good sign. But there is no rally program shown for 2024 (bad sign) and , as 2024 is the 30th anniversary of the Club, I would have expected this to be mentioned/celebrated.

This mid-2024 MotorHomeFun forum thread discussed finding an Owners Handbook for a 2000-vintage Compass Drifter 410

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/manual-for-compass-drifter-410.303968/

The final posting includes links to two .pdf files

https://www.slopey.com/van/410_Manual.pdf

https://www.slopey.com/van/410_Info.pdf

The 2nd file includes a wiring diagram with a 1998 date (predating Mary's Avantgarde motorhome by 3 years), but the scanned information is clear to read and I think these files are the best Mary will get.

(It would be wise for Mary to download the two .pdf files without delay, as there's no guarantee they will continue to be available.)

Hi Mary

Yes as Derek has provided the two files (from Slopey in Aberdeen) of course it would be wise to download same , just in case (covers quite a lot and a lot may be applicable to your motorhome) . Hopefully they may be some help I am sure from some kind  members in clubs that will let you have a photocopy of the manual you actually request  (if available) One was recently on e-bay i was informed by a member of our Club. So you hopefully may strike lucky yet

Happy motorhoming

Brendan
