Grumpy Grandad Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Hi. Whilst washing the windscreen on our motorhome yesterday, I noticed water running down the inside of the screen from the top. The screen is glued in, and to the best of my knowledge has never been replaced. Is Tolley's fluid any good, or has anyone any better suggestions please. Stuart Quote
Derek Uzzell Posted November 16 Posted November 16 I assume you still own a 2012 Rapido 9048df motorhome? Over the years there has been a good deal of discussion on this forum about "Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure". https://captaintolley.com/ This 2017 forum thread refers to using the product to seal a leaking windscreen-to-body joint. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/topic/41177-sealant-captains-trolley/ For a LOT more feed-back carry out a GOOGLE-search using "captain tolley's" "motorhome" "windscreen" as the search term. This is a relevant 2022 MotorHomeFun forum entry https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/leaking-windscreen.264060/ (I've never used the product myself, but online comments suggest it would be worth trying.) laimeduck Posted November 16 Posted November 16 I have successfully used Captain Tolley's to seal the windscreen of my old Citroen 2CV, and we used it on a yacht to seal around a leaking stanchion. The important thing is to find out exactly where the water is getting in, then apply the Tolley's in very small amounts. It is messy if it spreads. It dries to a PVA like shiny finish if spilled which is quite difficult to remove. You may need a few applications to seal the leek, but you will know because the "crack" will not take any more Tolley's liquid. Jeremy Quote
ColinM50 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Widely used esp in boats. Seems to cure everything so worth a go and at only a tenner what have you got to lose? Captain Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure 60ml leak crack sealer from manufacturer 744093001000 | eBay Quote
Grumpy Grandad Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Yes, you are quite correct Derek, still the same motorhome. I think it will be our last motorhome as I had my 80th birthday in September, and obviously can't go on for ever. I've just had to change the starter battery, after owning the van for 7 years, so no complaints there. I have nothing to lose by trying some of this fluid. Its only about £10 for a bottle. Thanks. Stuart you don't want to give up so easy, I'm coming up to 84 and at the moment I'm in Spain enjoying myself, I think the only thing is if DVLA refuse to renew my C1 licence I don't want to go through the hassel of getting a 3.5 t van so that might be it after 30 + years driving down here for the winter, B+++++ hasen't bothered us as the wife has an Irish passport.
