GregW Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Hi there, I have a 1995 Ducato 10 with a 1.9td. It has factory fitted air con which does not work. I want to check fuses etc. I have the original handbook for the driving bit of the camper and it tells me there are relays and fuses under the bonnet on the right hand side. There is a fuse box in the glove box which covers the main stuff but I cannot find the under bonnet fuses and relays. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm not really a numpty, but how hard an it be to find a chunky fusebox? Quote
Labby Posted November 17 Posted November 17 (edited) Are the Fiat underbonnet fuses/relays not under a large black cover on the opposite side to the starter battery ? If not there have a look underneath the fuse box in the glove box. Edited November 17 by Labby Quote
Derek Uzzell Posted November 17 Posted November 17 It may be worth mentioning that GregW's 1995 Ducato is left-hand-drive. (Is the fuse box 'masked' by the starter battery?) Quote
GregW Posted November 17 Author Posted November 17 Thanks, forgot to say it's lhd. Have looked all over the engine bay (even used a torch!) not enough room behind the battery etc. I'll grovel around and look under the dash, will have a look next weekend, cheomotharapy this week woo hoo! Quote
Derek Uzzell Posted November 17 Posted November 17 This Fiat Forum thread relates to a 1998 Ducato https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/where-is-fuse-box-in-engine-compartment-1998-model.487554/ There's also this https://car-box.info/fiat/ducato/2-244-230-1993-2006.html with the under-bonnet fuse-box marked 1 on the image below (which I think is of a LHD vehicle) Online questions about where the fuse-boxes are on older Ducatos suggest that some have a fuse-box in the engine compartment (a common place for such things) while others do not. If you cannot spot a fuse-box anywhere in there, presumably yours does not have one. Quote
Alanb Posted November 17 Posted November 17 The x230 model Ducato was introduced in 1993. It is therefore most probable that @GregW's vehicle is such, but to confirm the VIN will have the form ZFA230........ I own an x244, which is a face lifted plus a bit more, version of the x230. On the x244 the relays for aircon and flame starter are located under the hood at the centre rear of the engine bay. I expect the x230 to be similar in this respect. Similarly the x244 uses 3 additional relays for aircon, so expect to find 4 relays of Fiat origin plus any added by the converter for split charge and fridge functions. The hood may have vacuum and /or coolant pipes clipped to it, and is secured by two M6 screws (10mm head). It may be seen as a black box in the photo provided by Derek. I would look under the hood which if it exists, also covers the screen wiper motor. Alan Quote
Derek Uzzell Posted November 18 Posted November 18 I believe the photo I provided above relates to a Ducato X244. I can't find an image of a left-hand-drive Ducato X230's engine compartment that's adequate to identify a fuse-box in the same position, but - as it's obvious from the photo that there's something that looks exactlyt like a fuse-box in the "1" position - I'm pretty sure GregW would have spotted it if his Ducato had it. GregW Posted November 18 Author Posted November 18 No, no box in position 1, it's a bit odd that there are so many variations, I worked for Honda back in the 90's and stuff was well documented and sensibly laid out! How hard can it be to have only one or two variations most vehicles need the same circuits. Designed by engineers not mechanics (rant over!) Quote
Alanb Posted November 18 Posted November 18 No not in the "1" position which is the x244 version engine bay fusebox. Is there a cover similar to the one under the grey word "BOX" in photo? Alternatively the main relay location in the x230 was under the LHS lower dashboard. Has this location been investigated? Quote
GregW Posted November 18 Author Posted November 18 (edited) Had a grovel under the dash, nothing, saw a video on youtube which showed it as plain as daylight under the dash, not a thing either side. It's getting to be a battle of wills now! And of course when I do find it, all fuses and relays will be ok! Edited November 18 by GregW Quote

I have no idea where it is located, but there is one on Ebay for sale here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335414068747 so at least you know what you are looking for! It's really quite small. Jeremy Quote
Robinhood Posted November 18 Posted November 18 That particular fusebox appears to be p/n 1314291080, which ePer positions somewhere towards the centre of the dash - though the schematics can be somewhat misleading. (Number 1, here): Quote
onecal Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Hi Greg, How about a photo of your engine bay REgards Quote
