Rowan Lee Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 My shower mixer tap is leaking from the top, i.e. underneath the mixer lever. Having searched the forum, I thought I might be able to fix it so I have prised off the little cover but I am no further forward now. I had expected to find a screw underneath, which would enable me to lift off the top, but this is not the case. Has anyone got any ideas please?
puerto Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 hi mate, you are actually half way there. you where right in presuming there would be a small screw inside the little gromit. it will be a small posi head or phillips head screw but it may not be directly in the centre as a large percentage are usually off centre or even all the way to either the left or right. all i can suggest mate, is just keep moving it slightly until you locate it, but please drain or isolate the water first as you may get a little wet otherwise. inside there will be a couple of ceramic discs or washers that will need replacing, any plumbers merchant will match it up for you. its not a specialist part. any worries drop me a line.
njw Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 the screw on my tap was behind the red and blue plastic insert and when the tap is off (lever down ) then i was able to access the screw and remove the tap top, hope this helps
Rowan Lee Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 OK, I have solved the first part of the problem, it was a small screw requiring an allen key. However, having removed the screw, the top is as firmly fixed as it was before. Is it just a question of having the courage to use a bit more force to prise it off? Yes, the system is currently drained down!
puerto Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 yes mate, the whole dome should unscrew to reveal the inner workings of the lever. once in,you should see the ceramic discs. it is a little fiddly but an simple repair.
