puerto
hi again all, can anyone recommend a good alarm system for the motorhome. we have a 2007 bessacarr 425 on the ducato chassis. it does have the standard fiat system on the cab but so far nothing on the rear. so can anyone suggest a good system or any to avoid, also any good installers? we are in south yorkshire but obviously we are willing to travel within reason. cheers all... Bazza454
RonB - 2007-10-01 3:36 PM Van Bitz - but they are in Taunton. Excellent recommendation, they also have an adjacent campsite where you can stay over while the work is being completed -http://www.vanbitz.com/
puerto
sounds great, but a little too far unless we make a weekend of it. any where closer with a similar spec product?
Thai Bry
PuertoOur van is the 3rd now to have The Van Bitz fitted. Also with reversing camera due to solid rear wall on the van.We did go and stay o/night in Taunton - which is free if you're booked in to have work carried out on the following day.I do believe that they've also got an agent in the Nottingham area, so not too far to travel from South Yorks. There are other alarm systems available, it's the case of looking around for a good system. You could also try a company called "RAM" Electronics who install, in -car entertainment systems, alarms, Sat Navs and Speed camera warning systems. They have a place in Wakefield & Hull.http://www.rammobile.com/There will be other contributors on here who will also be able to help.I must state that I have no commercial connections with either of these companies. Except as a happy customer for my M/Home - alarm - , and the car for the speed camera warning system.Thai
RonB
As Bazza said they have an excellent camp site - all hardstandings. You could always make a mini trip of it. One other thing. They and their alarm systems are motorhome spacific - they hardly work on anything else.
puerto
looks like a trip "darrn sarrf" then friends, i would prefer a motorhome specialist to do the work rather than someone who usually only fits in the bling bling mobiles!! no offence to anyone with a hot hatch by the way! John H
Hi Puerto, I don't know where you live but I assume it's up north somewhere. Leisure Power in Warrington fit the "Strikeback T" alarm, I assume, under licence from Van Bitz. www.leisurepower.co.uk John.

Guest JudgeMental
Look at THATCHAM site for accredited commercial van fitters in your area, you should find a mobile one and they should be more reasonable then some of the so called Motorhome specialists. Mel E
Puerto, A) I certainly would not describe Van Bitz as 'so called'. B) They now have a number of agents - call them or email them (Google for the web site) and find the nearest to you. C) The big advantages of Van Bitz over systems for commercial vans are twofold: 1. They are used to working on motohomes and hiding cables, etc., without wrecking your new toy - a bit different from working on a nice empty metal van. 2. They can supply you with all sorts of extras tailored for your specific motorhome use - like a plug-in loop to protect a towed trailer, or an extra loud alarm (the siren from hell), and so on. D) If I were you, I'd go to Taunton for a few days. If that doesn't fit, talk to Eddie at Van Bitz and make sure he is entirely happy with the work his agent local to you does. Mike P
Leisurepower in Warrinton installed Vanbitz Strikeback T in my AT Cheyenne and fiited me a cruise control at the same time. They did an excellent professional job on both and the system does all they say on the tin. They also have an overnight pitch with hook up (but not terribly rural!). I preferred the Strikeback to the TOAD system many dealers fit because it uses radio sensors for habitation area protection as opposed to the rather "Mickey Mouse" PIR sensors Hope this helps Mike P
Mike P
PS I got a 20% discount on my insurance from Caravanguard as well./ (For the alarm not the cruise control!)
