Tattoos

I have a pair of tattoos, one on either upper arm which are both unobstrusive and usually covered by clothing. Nothing unusual really, but tattooing has been a fashion statement for a while now and what does cause me concern is the number of young women having this done in more prominent and visual places. I,m not applying double standards here, but I do feel many of these girls will live to regret it in later years when these tattoos will become nothing more than a constant embarrassment, with only costly and I should imagine painfull treatment being the only way to remove them, if they can be removed that is. Nothing wrong with the odd butterfly on the shoulder or thigh, but having them on the face or neck is asking for trouble, or am I just being old fashioned.

Not at all Howie, how would a bloke feel taking her at the age of 40 to a posh do, when she has tattoos all round her neck?. The fancy ones at the base of the spine are quite nice though. :->

Not old fashioned, I've got a few from my past life in Thailand, but like yours are not on show unless I'm on the beach in shorts, or sunbathing. Some are in Siamese, so difficult for people to read anyway. Good discussion point if anyone asks though.

I too worry about the so called fashion accessory of having tats on show especially in a so called professional office environ and the such like.

Both of our daughters (27 and 25 years old) have tattoos designed by the older of the two. They both have a design on their upper back and they now sport one each on the inside of one forearm that is designed using their initials. I have no problem with them having tattoos if that's there choice. They're big enough and old enough to make up their own minds. I do think the designs are very artistic though.

I have 3; one on each upper arm (bicep area), and one big one as a backpiece.

Love 'em, but was always wise enough to place them where I can cover them up when I need to get "poshed up", or present a suitably professional appearance for work etc.

Adults (both man and women) should remain free to make their own minds up about what they do to/with their bodies - and with that adult freedom also comes the persons own adult and personal responsibility for reaping the consequences, in the shape of social approval or disapproval in the years/decades that follow.

We will all live to regret many of the things we do in life - that's life for ya!

There's no road map.......but on balance I think I'd much rather in old age regret some of the things that I've done, rather than regretting all the things I've not done.

Dot's son has several all over his upper body and arms and all at the behest of his rather Goth partner.

Even now he is finding some issues regarding work and certainly promotion prospects due to these tattoos and I worry that they will prevent him from developing his abilities to the full as time passes.

Silly boy in our view!

a friend of ours got a heart tattoed on her breast she thought it look great cost about £50 to get put on. about 2 years later she realised it didnt look to good any more cost £850 to get it lasered off :-(

I would have had a go at licking it off for free. (lol)

LMAO - You'd have major problems with saliva shortage trying to lick mine off!!! I've got 3, one on my breast, one lower back and a very very large back piece.

In answer to the regretting it later - I don't think I will - theres no way I can be sure, but to be honest, most of the younger generation now have tattoos - infact its unusual not to. So when I reach my greyer years, I expect most of my zimmer frame pushing mates willhave them as well so I won't feel any regret.

I have also had the foresight to have them in places where it is possible for me to cover them up and appear 'totally normal' (if there is such a thing nowadays!!).

Tattoos are a personal thing and I personally dont like them. Having had parts of my anatomy permanently marked by burns scars etc, working in a ships engine room I have no intention of paying to have yet more pain and discomfort inflicted.

Some young women look very sexy with discrete emblems on the shoulder etc but generally the effect is marred by surplus fat.

Still each to His or Her own

Janine ... will you kindly stop posting pictures or Richard ... especially at this time of night ... I'm just about to have me tea! Put me completely off it has. :-(

Thank you for that perceptive observation Lemonie dear. I might - or might not - have the belly but I sure do not have the artwork because, as you may have noticed, I need no help whatsoever in distributing my own very special blend of bulls##t.
