Lee1st Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi All, A question for the audiophile techies. I am going to upgrade my radio in my motorhome. One of the problems I have is that the current radio does not hold the signal well while travelling around and I assume this to be due to a poor aerial signal. I have had a booster fitted to the aerial lead as is fitted to aerials on modern cars that have the small "beesting" aerials and that does seem to have improved the situation but not cleared it up altogether. If I'm getting a new head unit I wanted to give it the best possible chance of working well and thought it'd be wise to replace the aerial with a good quality unit too. Now then, is there any such thing as a good quality auto radio aerial or are they all much of a muchness? Can't seem to find much info on this aspect. Can anyone help and better still point me towards a good unit? Cheers, Lee
Dave Newell Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hi Lee, I've had lots of success with the telescopic chrome plated type, either wing mount or pillar mount. My own motorhome has a pillar mount type but mounted to the offside front wing and it works really well in most areas although we did experience some loss of signal for radio 2 in South Shropshire this weekend (mind you I'm not sure such technological advances as radio have reached South Shroppy yet, only joking I'm a Shroppy myself ;-) ) D.
Guest Tracker Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Agreed. Wing mounted telescopic aerial the best cure and the longer the aerial the better it works but beware of a gurt long 'un slapping on the luton at speed. If you remove the black plastic lower windscreen surround you get just enough room to tighten a wing mounted aerial from below if you don't mind skinned knuckles.
Lee1st Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 Cheers chaps, sounds like a wing mounted metal jobby it is then Thanks again, Lee
