robin
Hello All, Anyone advise me how to touch a couple of minor scratches on the aluminium skin of my M/H? These are back to the aluminium and is a small ding (I thinks it is from a stone) that I would ideally like to fill.
Dave Newell
Hi Robin, filling aly is difficult because it oxidises so fast that most things won't adhere to it without an etch primer first. What you can do is to make the dent a little bigger (if necessary) and drill lots of small holes through the skin within the area of the dent. This will provide a key for the filler to adhere to. Personally I would still use an etch primer first to seal the aly but its not readily available in small quantities as far as I know. D.
robin
Thanks, Dave Am I correct in assumming that I would need to use etch primer first on the bare aluminium, even if I don't fill?

Dave Newell
Definitely, paint will just fall off aly without an etch primer first. If you do use an etch primer don't forget to wear a good respirator mask as its nasty stuff. D.
Guest Tracker
A filler that remain flexible when set will help too because aluminium, being soft, flexes more than steel.
