Basil
Hi pete, Yes. Yes. Yes I believe so. Yes Try TB Turbo see http://www.turboboost.co.uk/ Good freindly people to deal with, not cheap but worth every penny if you like your camper and want to keep it. barrie w
expensive but very worthwhile. we paid around £2000 but thats a lot cheaper than changing the van .
Ranger
Hi 4petedaniel, Don't want to shatter you dreams, but my last 'van was an Autotrail Cherokee L on a VW automatic fitted with a T.B.Turbo. I now have an Autosleeper Legend on a non turbo automatic Ford Transit, which out performs the Turbo VW. Both 'vans are about the same weight but the Legend much more stream-lined but of course this does not affect take off from standing where the non turbo Transit is far better. Before you pay too much attention to my findings, consider that both vehicles had an automatic gear box, also Ford Transit do not fit turbos on automatics. There may be a less expensive way to increase the performance, how about Viagra in the tank???
Basil
One thing I would say is that TB Turbo will not advise you to have it done if they do not think it is worth doing, I actually saw them tell someone that whilst mine was being converted as we were there on their site for three days. The effect on our vehicle from non turbo to turbo is significant and it actually performs better than our friends identical van that was turbo from build yet TB's turbo uses a lower boost pressure. I believe that that is a better measure of whether it was worthwhile than comparing two totally different types of van. Bas
Guest Tracker
I assume the addition of a turbo would cause the injection timing and engine ECU to need remapping? Might your superior performance be because TB Turbos might remap the ECU more efficiently than the original mass market settings of the ECU, and perhaps more along the lines of a tuning 'chip'? Basil
If the previous post was reffering to our Boxer then no, ours doesn't have an ECU it is pre common rail. Bas
Dave Newell
Richard, a '96 T4 won't have electronically managed diesel injection either. you are correct in that the fuelling level will need altering to suit the turbo but a reputable installer such as TB will do that as part of the installation. TB alsouse a rolling road brake dynamometer to calibrate and setup the motor so you get the job done right. D.
