Guest Le Thou
Decided to buy a microwave for the Miami but what do I need to look for, I think they should be of a certain wattage and do they run of 12v as well as 240 ??
chatterdog
You can get 12v microwaves but they are v. expensive you will find them on accesory pages of boating websites. We just use a household microwave when on hookup ours is a 700w and hasnt triped on us yet but dont try to use other high power use items at the same time
malc d
Our microwave is an 800watt and we find that we need at least a 6 amp hook up to prevent tripping. (Important when on low amp hook-up not to try boiling a kettle at the same time). Have been quite happy with it. When it was fitted, about 4 years ago, we enquired about a 12 volt model and were advised that they were very heavy on batteries, so chose to go with a mains model. ( The info is also normally included in their brochure)
Philman
The power rating of a microwave, eg 700W or 800W, is not an indication of the power it will draw from the supply it is the output power. To find the input power you need to look at the label on the back of the microwave. This will tell you the input power and is typically 1100W. The surge on start up can be higher than this which is why a 6 amp or greater supply is needed to avoid tripping it. Phil.
