A wave or a flap? A secret society?

Now, the serious issue of waving at other m/h's.....do you or don't you. or are your waves only for the GB plated vehicles?

Any motorbikers out there will also know that this waving tradition is common amongst bikers..but what about those who are confused?

We were out on our Harley yesterday when we saw a chugger coming towards us (on the other side of the road)... and I felt Bruce moving his arms.... I have to admit my hubby was doing the birdy song flapping routine on the bike, at the chugger.... indeed everytime he passed one he'd flap his bingo wings (not that he has bingo wings, but if he did then they'd be flapping)... at the chuggers.

They must have thought we were crazy (probably the right assumption).

So if anyone does venture to Spain, esp in the Costa Blanca region, and sees a Harley coming towards them with the rider flapping his arms - then thats us! So maybe we could then get you all to flap your wings too... so we could have a secret forum sign !!!

since we're hardly ever recognised as a camper / motorhomer I've tended not to bother.

I used to have several triumphs and and MG - and we all wave - well - with the triumph it was more of a subtle nod in acknowledgement of our joint superior taste :-> :-> :-> and judgement

No motorhome drivers wave at my battered old VW, they have thier noses firmly stuck to the top windscreen seal. I swear next time I go to enefest I'm going to take works jisun monkey bike and park it up next to the hogs

Sparkle, you know when people tell you there are certain subject you just DO NOT mention on here ... well, you've just jumped on one!!! :D

Ahhhhh... ok, I don't want to open a huge debate, but should we consider starting a secret forum sign? - It would have to be something done with the upper body (keep it clean please lads...) as obviously you'd be driving....

A simple wave/gesture, (polite!) or smile doesn't do any harm and is just a way of aknow....ackowleg....acknowledging......greeting a fellow traveller!

Bring some cheer into the World while you drive, people :-D

p.s. If that's not incentive enough, just think of all those miserable gits you p*** off!

J9withdogs - 2007-12-10 6:14 PM I wave at all motorhomes and quite a few prison vans and buses, by mistake. :$
Im glad Im not the only one :$ still it keeps other half ammused.

Hows about horse boxes, I wave to a few of them too.

Don't see many m/cycles riders waving Twooks, just a nod of the head is usual.

Never riden a Hog, but most bikes drop the throttle shut when hand is taken off to wave, embarassing.

I think that waving has just got a bit past it's sell by date.

When I started motoring we used to get a wave from the RAC or AA patrol man. But when numbers increased significantly over the years it meant they would spend all day waving so they stopped.

Then we started to go on the continent in the early sixties and if ever you saw another GB car, everyone would wave.

Again, there are now so many GB cars and motorhomes over there that waving to them all would be ridiculous, especially around the north coast of France.

Nowadays we only tend to wave when in more distance places where GB motorhomes are a rarity, but that is getting further away each year.

Nothing wrong with it though - each to his own as always.

"My other car" as the saying goes, is a 1968 Mini.

When I'm driving that I find most other drivers of Minis of any age (real ones that is, not those phoney BMW lookalikes) wave.

When I used to ( :'( ) drive old Hannibal, people didn't always recognise him as a camper, but when they did they'd wave - well, those in old ones anyway.

At present (until 1st March :-D ) my main vehicle is a boring Escort Estate, and NO-ONE waves to them!

I now have two challenges:

1) to remember what I'm driving, so as not to wave at people for no obvious reason;

2) once the new wagon arrives, to make a point of waving to people in older vans.

rubbish - triumphs were cars of character - and so what if bits dropped off through rust - as long as the chassis was ok ?? :-> :->

I think the reason that other motorhomers don't wave at old VWs is because old VWs are a bit of cult and don't usually recognise anything other than other old VWs - they frequently ignore T4s as well - and I believe a more extreme driver will only recognise other splitties :-> :->

as for hogs - singularly unimpressed - much too noisy - I prefer subtle

I remember when my pals older brother used to give me a lift home from scouts in his Reliant three wheeler.

When a similar vehicle approached from the opposite direction, he would hold up his hand, (as if a policeman stopping traffic) and I would want to curl up in embarrassment.

Probably why I acknowledge, but don't instigate !
