I'm a lot wiser about the electrical side of motorhomes as a result, and the problem now seems to be sorted. My origional brand new battery was replaced after 3 months under warrenty by Ford and the man who fitted the replacement didn't connect the smaller wires which must be to do with the onboard charger.
