Why do relatively straightforward threads denigrate into some insane banter

Happy Christmas Brian!

I noticed too the snide comment on the 'This is not a joke thread' and on several more of 'your' threads and several things come to mind.

Firstly, may I respectfully suggest that you get your sense of humour MOT'd.

Secondly, the more comments a thread gets the longer it stays near the top of the page and the more likely it is to be read - crucial with sound advice like that particular posting.

Thirdly, it is a simple matter to quickly scan and identify the irrelevant postings on any topic - and virtually ignore them.

Fourthly, one tends to devalue one's own standing by starting such threads as this one.

Fifthly, why is it do you think, that you should be the only one with the right to dictate who says what and when?

Sincere best wishes for a healthy New Year.

The digressions of topics of conversations is human nature.

When was the last time you went down the pub and talked for more than 5 minutes on the same subject?

IMO it would be a pretty boring night out *-)

But if that's what you want Brian, I'm off to talk to some interesting people. Bye bye.

I absolutely agree - so who does like brussel sprouts?

Now now Jasper - don't upset Uncle Brian by going off topic!

The question surely must be who in their right mind would ever eat a sprout anyway?

You have to wonder how hungry the first person to ever eat a sprout must have been?

I read it as "Inane" when I first looked at the thread. I was quite surprised when I looked back and saw it was "Insane"

Was it you Tony, who asked Deep Thought the wrong question? :-D

I thought 'denigrate' means to blacken and I expected a scene from the black and white minstrels to follow.

As it is the thread is degenerating nicely in the best traditions of the forum.

I too thought 'inane', but on reflection 'insane' is more accurate!

Has he gone? Can I come back in? :D

Yes - but you have to bring your own chocolate because Donna has run out of Topics!

You have to sympathise with anyone who puts a serious question on "Chatterbox".

There is a lot of inane banter on here, so when something serious comes along it is not always recognised as such. ( I prefer 'inane' to 'insane').

Maybe it does send some people off to pastures new, but in my case anything I don't like I just ignore.

(Sometimes I don't even read my own posts).

"Why do relatively straightforward threads denigrate into some insane banter"

Cos this part of the forum is for that purpose! Having a genertal natter about non specific subjects. Being idiots, bigots, zealots or whatever.

When you have a natter with someone don,t you frequently change subjects during the conversation but somehow seem to end up where you started?

Have you see the price of Strawberries today?

Oh dear, Two Clive,s on the same thread. That could be fun.
