phantom
Hi all took van out yesterday and discovered the inside of one of the large side windows has cracked across one corner on the inside. I think it must of been the frost but it is definately split only on the inside. How easy are they to replace or is it a job for a dealer to fix? How long can it be left? Is it a common problem? Thanks Phantom :-D
BrianR
I would suggest that to get advice you will ned to give more information. For instance, what make, model and year is your 'van and, if possible, what make are the windows? The more information you can give, the better the advice. have you contacted the converter - they should be able to guide you. Brian

Derek Uzzell
phantom: Plastic windows tend to become brittle with age and I expect that's what's caused the crack in yours rather than frost. How easy it will be to replace will depend on what make/type of window Elddis fitted originally (assuming it's still the original window, of course). If it's the sort of top-hung window used in caravans, then replacement should be straightforward. However, the main difficulty nowadays may be in obtaining a direct replacement for the 'glass' and you might have to purchase a complete window + frame. As I expect you know, Elddis is now part of Explorer Group (www.explorer-group.co.uk). Given the age of your motorhome, I'm a mite doubtful that they'd be in a position to help, but you never know your luck. There are also firms who specialise in the manufacture/supply of replacement windows (eg. www.caravanwindows.co.uk or www.leisurevehiclewindows.co.uk or www.vehicle-marine.co.uk) Caravan breakers are another possibility. As a temporary measure I suggest you cover the crack with duct-tape to minimise the chance of the window's outer pane going the same way.
kelly58
At the end of the crack drill a small hole this will stop the crack getting longer .use a drill on low speed so as not to get any heat build up it always worked on light aircraft perspex screens when I was repairing and restoring light aircraft. Basil
I obtained a replacement for a broken window on our Elddis from CAK at a very reasonable cost. Bas
ike
Why do I always read possible solutions to my problems after they've been rectified?! Our lounge window was broken by a stone throwing lout. A replacement was obtained from Hymer (9 week delivery) and a local company agreed to install it during which process someone stood on it! A second window had to be ordered ( another 9 weeks) and eventually it was installed a week or so ago. Wonder if CAK would have been quicker/cheaper? Anyway we used the van at the weekend and whilst pulling the blind up we heard a spring go "twang" and now the blind is stuck in the up position. Now having to go back and have that fixed hopefully under the window warranty but I'm wondering if the installers will try to refer us to Hymer. flicka
Hi Phantom You could also try Magnum Motorhomes @ Grimsby or O'Leary's @ Beverley You could send a paper pattern to see if they can match up. Both stock a wide range of Windows, mainly Manufacturers' surplus. See the classified link on the left for details
