It's fantastic news!

But I'm beginning to sense that there may be a LOT more to the whole story than the simple "abduction" that most people originally thought.........so don't go jumping to conclusions and lynching anyone until all the facts emerge.

donna miller - 2008-03-14 4:00 PM How great is the news that this little girls has been found alive and well.

Donna

Yes, great news about young Shannon.

This whole story happens to be in the next town to where we live. Apperently, she was found hidden in the base of a bed in someone's flat. The flat was about a mile away from where her mother's house is.

The sad thing is that for a long time, people around here thouight that there was a connection to someone within the immediate family.

My only thoughts are what kind of long term effects are there apon the little might.?? How many years will it be before anything may come to light about her long term peace of mind.

The glad thing is was to be able to see the celebrations that her family and friends were able to celebrate with her safe home coming.

A true happy ending.

Here in Sunderland, in the not too distant past, we have had a few scandles in Social Services homes and some time ago the Dept head of our S/S (now retired) admitted to me that the Social Services throughout the UK employed more abusers than anyone else and that they had not then managed to make their provisions a safe environment for children.

That still didn't stop them continueing to take yet more children into care though, so I think I will have to stick by that opinion for now.

I will happily admit that not all provision is bad, particularly yours (lol) (lol)

Re my earlier comments about family members being involved.

It seems that the arrested person was connected to the family. He is the uncle of Shannon's stepdad. There are now serious questions being asked, as to why , If all other family members had been questioned, then why not this person.?

He was actualy found in the same compartment - under the bed - as Shannon was when police raided his flat.

It will be interesting to hear what made the Police check out his flat. How does a single man manage to hide a young girl for 24 days without anyone knowing? Really weird that. He must've had to go out for food etc at some point .... no doubt it will all come out soon enough.

Hi Mel

As John has stated in the post before mine, there was a report from the flat below, that footsteps were herad when the flat was supposed to be empty.

There are now rumours that the arrested person - charged under one name - is also known by another name, is saying that certain members of the family knew all about this.

Gets stranger & stranger, like you say - no doubt all will come out in the wash.

Yes - sadly the grandparents were saying how unhappy she was at home. Great cause for concern here I would think.

Seems a truly classic "dysfunctional family" - the mother has had 6 kids from 5 differing fathers.

I feel really sorry for the girl.

Far more going on here than we have heard so far methinks.

As for Social Services - yes they do make mistakes - but for me I think she is better off for now being with Soc. Serv. than simply thrown back to where she was so unhappy.

I think the grand total (to date) is actually 7 kids, by 5 different Fathers.

I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Shannon was actually hiding/staying at the vague relatives house because she WANTED to, NOT because she was being held aginst her will.

Other witnesses have said they heard a child's laughter coming from that upstairs flat.

Several of her friends have attested that she had told them she was very unhappy living at her own house and did not want to go home.

(If I also recall correctly?) on the night before she disappeared, she had gone round to her Grans (Aunts?) house very upset and had begged to be allowed to live/stay there instead of going home.

Also the man who's been arrested who lived at the flat apparently had 2 children of his own with a woman to whom he was married for a short time, but following their split-up, both children were taken into Care and the natural parents were forbidden from contacting them at all any more...so I guess a very disturbed/upset/lonely chap, missing his own children, and willing to help Shannon hide from whatever she hates about her own home life?????

There's certainly more to this than the original and possibly totally wrong knee-jerk pub-talk about "he's a paedophile and he abducted and imprisoned her"......we'll have to wait and see what other facts emerge in the coming days.

Pretty much what i read - but again - can you trust what you read in the UK's so called "News"papers?

But it is very telling that she is NOT back in the family home.

I think there will be a lot of the "adults" in that family that are going to have to answer some difficult (for them) questions before this is all over.

:-( :-S
