Satellite receiver £64.99 + B&Q rotary clothes drier £8.70 = £73.69 Apologies for the costing error I realised after pressing submit. The rotary drier is ideal, its very stable and the height can be adjusted.

Just realised you're questioning the clothes line, simple really, buy rotary drier (three legged tye) - remove 30M line - turn upside down and fit receiver - job done.

Hi all digibox buffs hope you enjoy your new digiboxes.

A bit of info for you all incase you don't already know. Channel 4 are doing trials on astra 2 fta. transponder frequency 10.729 V 2200 the channel ident is 8350 not channel 4, on some digiboxes you can type in youy own channel ident.

Also BBC News 24 is now" The News Channel" and has a new transponder so delete the old one and put in 11.729 H 27500. Hopefully channel 5 will folow in the autumn.

Regards to you all. Geoff

Hi Libby,

I am not familiar with the silvercrest box, but on my own samsung digibox there is a menu under "system set up" where I can add and delete transponders, although the instructions leave a lot to be desired and it took a bit of head scratching to work it out, I would have thought that your new one should have this facility. Don't forget to re-scan the satalite after changing Transponder frequencys.

Sorry i can not be of more help on this. Regards geoff

I have bought one, I had to buy a Scart to AV jack connecing cable as I don't have a Scart on my TV, This works well.

I also have a much larger dish and all singing dancing reciever, the Lidl one works just as well in this country and I will use my larger dish abroad.

Well worth the money and it's a three year warranty as well.

We have had a Lidls kit for about 3 years - well worth the money!.

The one we have had the "Porty" receiver (made by Comac). The set up menu is quite easy and you can add transponders and search on individual transponders as well as whole satellite searches. I have also set up "Silver Crest" boxes where the menu is a bit more complicated but you can still do transponder searches.

It is often better do do transponder searches as you don't fill up the box with a lot of stations you will never watch. Just remember To select "FREE" as you will also get the pay channels loaded which you wont be able to watch.

For each satellite you intend to use you can get the transponder info from www.lyngsat.com.

Hi Doug,

I bought a backup system from Maplins, £38 for the complete Camping Kit in a suitcase on promo last month. The Liberty sat receiver has only two scart sockets and no RF output. To use this sat receiver with a laptop you will need to buy a DVD capture program with hardware as in link http://tinyurl.com/5qhtob and a switchable scart lead as in link http://tinyurl.com/6bepyn , I bought the scart/RGB lead from Asda for £1.89 last week. The scart AV output from the sat receiver is plugged into the RGB sockets supplied by the DVD capture program, which in turn is plugged into your USB port.

Some scart leads will have the three coloured plugs as well as a composite (round) plug, if your laptop has a composite input socket you could use this instead of the DVD capture program and hardware.

I usually use an analog/digital TV card in the laptop and plug in the RF output from the Sky Javelin 1000 sat box, tuning the TV card to sat box analog output channel (21 - 64). Have a look at link

http://tinyurl.com/5ggfxs

I have one of these and it will capture AV as well, works all over the world too.

Regards Terry

Hi Doug,

I just re-read my posting and it does seem a bit complicated, perhaps its the way I have explained it.

Most of these cheaper sat receivers have only scart sockets and no red, white and yellow RGB sockets or RF out socket, the small TV's mostly have the red, white and yellow RGB input plugs for AV connections, but no scart socket.

You will need a scart to phono lead to be able to connect the sat receiver to the TV, buy the scart to phono lead with a little slide switch mounted on the top of the scart plug, it should be set to OUT not IN when connecting to the sat receiver, switching it to the wrong position will not damage any equipment, use the TV remote control to place the TV in AV mode, and all will be well - once you have managed to align your dish with the satellite!

I think I'm with you. To show the depth of my ignorance, it's taken me all day to work out that AV means audio/visual (don't tell me it doesn't - please !). And I do follow what you mean about the SCART to phono so all should be well.......

I sat down after dinner to read the satellite dish/receiver manual, confidently exoecting that the booklet would be in about 5 languages so I'd only need to read 20% of it. Oh no; this is all in English - I've got to read the whole thing. In fact, at the beginning, it says in a very Germanic way, that I HAVE to understand the whole thing...!

The Lidl, Silvercrest and Maplin receivers with a code something like SL65 are identical - with minor variations in chip set depending on age.

They're the same damn thing - different badge!

SO THOSE WHO SWEAR BY ONE AGAINST ANOTHER ARE JUST DAFT - what makes the difference is the dish!

All these and more are imported/made by COMAG try: www.comag.de a very ood company.

I was always told to read the instructions if all else fails - you can suck a new, updated EPG/list from whichever feed you're pointing at, by accessing the appropriate menu on the receiver and letting it scan for a few moments.

They can be reprogrammed as detailed on the manufacturers web site:

Software-Update via Satellit Astra1 19° Ost: Ja. Again there is a sub-menu to let you do this.

Exactly as you'd expect from a german company who is not beholden to the Sky monopoly - though this transponder may now be defunct!

The RS232 or update above is for the operating software NOT programme information.

You should not need to replace the OS (operating system). Software is, however, held on a couple of specialist satellite websites if absolutely imperative and it will load via the RS232 socket at the back.

Positively NOT for the uninitiated.

Hi Maubern,

You will probably find the sat receiver operating system will allow you to select a 'Beeper' which alters the pitch as you swing the dish onto the satellite.

I still prefer to use a separate analogue sat finder, as the little meter can be attached to the LNB on the dish and is hander to accurately position the dish.

I would steer clear of the satfinder with LED's, I have used both and feel the analogue satfinder with a meter and pointer easier to use.
