We ordered/bought ours online from a UK stock/supplier (delivered in a couple of days) but they had been manufatcured in China.....so? The same probably goes for a hefty percentage of items in people's homes nowadays.
Strange that really, as we were always being told by Brexiteers that the EU was stopping us from trading with the rest of the world?
(so is China in the EU now then...?)
but either way, I'm not the clown shouting "Commie Chums" at every turn

Get it right Pepe......The EU forced us to pay tariffs on stuff we bought from non EU countries .........

…………...........

This is insane! You want to offshore more UK jobs to help the poor. How will that work?

Nope, I want the UK to concentrate on developing high skilled jobs like plumbers electricians etc .........
Increasing low skilled jobs just increases migration to feed sweatshops like those in Leceister ........

So how does importing more goods from abroad because they are cheaper, which is what your link promotes, further those entirely laudable objectives? Gun, foot, BANG!!

Simple economics .........

If folk can buy them cheaper from abroad.......then there is no demand for sweatshops in the UK .................

Nor the illegal/legal migrants that work in them ...........

So, your test for deciding whether we should import cheap widgets from abroad, is whether illegal immigrants are involved in making similar widgets in UK. If they are, we should simply import the widgets from abroad.

Problems:

1 How do we know where the illegals are employed? They won't be telling us, will they?

2 Assuming we can find out where they are employed, we simply order cheaper imports from abroad. But, who is "we"? "We" usually buy widgets from the retail sector, not the manufacturer. So, what you then need is that all retailers are instructed (but by whom?) to forthwith buy those widgets from abroad?

So, UK factory orders now dry up, and they turn to making different widgets (still employing the illegals, so own goal 1!), or they go bust, (including the good guys who weren't employing illegals (own goal 2!)! But then, those illegals who were working in the factories which have gone bust now disappear into the black labour market from which they came, and end up making different widgets in a different factory (own goal 3!). Meanwhile, the employees from the now bankrupt good factories end up on the dole (own goal 4). Net result? Disused factories, reduction in GDP, increase in unemployment, and we've still got the illegals! So yes, simple economics. Very, very, very, simple economics.

Two suggestions:

First, don't go into government Dave. Please!!

Second, employ and use inspectors to visit factories unannounced (with powers to summon police of denied entry) and inspect the credentials of everyone present, including their working conditions, and arrest any not legally present for immediate transfer to a holding facility pending deportation, arrest of the factory owner pending prosecution and fine for employing illegals or not maintaining a safe place of work with, for a second offence, say, a five year minimum ban on subsequent registration of companies or holding directorships.

Now, the odd thing about this is that the Health and Safety Act 1974 gives HSE Inspectors most of the above powers, with penalties, saving that they are not involved with the employment of illegal immigrants. However, the Immigration Service holds those additional powers.

Since we have had illegal immigrants since legal immigration was invented, doesn't it strike you as odd that these powers seem not to have been more widely used? Wilson, Callaghan, Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron, and May were all able to instruct HSE and/or IS inspectors to visit places suspected of employing illegals to check the credentials of employees, and the legality of their places of work, but seem only to have done so in certain instances. Strange, that, isn't it? I wonder why?
