Ashpark
Unfortunately my motorhome was viciously on the rear by a stationary bollard and sustained a bit of gel coat damage. The damage is a small area around 2x10cms. Has anyone know of a (competent) repairer somewhere around the West of Scotland? So far, all those I’ve contacted, including specialist motorhome repairers, want to fill and spray paint the whole panel. Boat repairers also appear to be thin on the ground. I would be grateful for help because the alternative is a botched repair job by the only other alternative......me :-S
peterjl
Hi Look at sailing dinghy repairers, racing dinghies can take some serious knocks and we have a local boat repair (southern England) who does an excellent job in invisible repairs. I insure my dinghies with Noble Marine and they have lists of repairs, for different parts of the country, on their website. Try googling Noble Marine sailing dinghy repairers Scotland. It’s worth a whirl to see if anyone in your part of the world that might be suitable. Good luck Peter
blaven
Try R.S. Gillies Experienced GRP workers. I believe they repair RNLI craft. West Coast is a huge area.
Dickybeau
What about the Marina at Rhu? They do boats but they might be able to help
StuartO
A repairer who wants to fill, smooth and then respray the whole panel wants to deliver a repair which will look good; just patching up the colour around the repair is unlikely to produce a good cosmetic result. I had a gouge on a rear panel repair recently and you can’t tell where it was - but the cost was £390 at our local car accident repair workshop. But if you are not concerned about appearance, you could simply fill the repair yourself using gel coat of the best colour match you can find - but of course this will devalue your MH when it comes to selling. Ashpark
Many thanks for the helpful replies. I’ve been getting quotes at anything from £350 to well over £1000 (from a boat repairer), so I’m learning a lesson about my future driving. You’ve given me food for thought.
