Deffheads
This is the only battery available to me for immediate delivery, is this suitable for my motorhome leisure replacement?
Derek Uzzell
As will be seen from this advert for the PC2250 Enersys “Odyssey” https://www.tayna.co.uk/industrial-batteries/odyssey/pc2250/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-_LU7KTs4wIVibPtCh2GGgNzEAQYASABEgIk9fD_BwE this range of batteries is AGM type not gel type. The charging system of your motorhome is unlikely to be optimised for AGM batteries, so - if you want a simple answer - an Odyssey battery will be unsuitable. Relocating a battery from beneath a cab-seat probably won’t be easy - it depends where you moved it to. That you’ve felt the need tp ask that question suggests that you should avoid trying it ;-)
bounty hunter
Alpha Batteries and Tayna let you add one to basket but then you need to enter card details so don't actually know if they have a battery. Deffheads
I have spoken to nearly all battery suppliers with no joy, hence the question about Odessy.
Derek Uzzell
I understand that the Dethleffs motorhome you own is a 2006 Esprit i7870 model similar to the 2005 vehicle shown in this advert. https://www.yourstyleleisure.co.uk/used-motorhome-dethleffs-esprit-i7870-4-berth-class-motorhome-10016 The photos indicate that the cab-seats are not standard Fiat Ducato, so it’s difficult to know how much space is available beneath them. The dimensions of the battery you would like to obtain are Length - 286 mm Width - 269 mm Height (inc. Terminals) - 230 mm The Enersys “Odyssey” PC2250 battery has very similar dimensions (Height = 233mm apparently) so should fit under the seat - but the PC2250 is AGM type not gel type and, consequently, there is a question-mark over how it would match your motorhome’s charging system. Essentially, although you COULD fit the PC2250, it might not perform as you would hope and, as the price is around £400, it would be better not to choose this battery if you could avoid doing so. The Tayna website lists some batteries with the required dimensions https://tinyurl.com/yxashbf8 but the ‘wet’ batteries are intended for engine starting and, in any case, installing a ‘wet’ battery beneath a cab seat would normally require that a vent-tube be fitted. It seems likely that the 230mm battery-height will be a limiting factor. but have you confirmed wherher there is the opportunity to fit a battery with dimensions that are larger than the 286mm (length) and/or 269mm (width) given above? This Tayna listing is based on a search for 12V gel batteries having a height ranging from 215mm to 233mm. https://tinyurl.com/y2jpdv5q Some of these will have a Ah capacity well below 110Ah, while others will be too long and/or too wide. But some MIGHT go in and be available for immediate delivery. For example this Leoch battery https://www.tayna.co.uk/leisure-batteries/leoch/gtp-12110/ has a 330mm length (not 286mm) seems to be in stock and is advertised elsewhere. https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/12v-110ah-leoch-powabloc-tubular-gel-battery/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiIK06tbt4wIVx7HtCh0w4QEMEAQYAyABEgLqu_D_BwE If you cannot immediately obtain a gel battery with the 286 x 269 x 230 dimensions, your realistic options seem to be to buy the Odyssey PC2250 AGM battery, or a gel battery with different dimensions, or even a ‘wet’ battery (example here) https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/varta-lfd75.html that is said to not require a vent-tube in normal use and should go under the cab-seat. (if a ‘wet’ battery were chosen, your motorhome’s battery-charger would probably need switching to a ‘wet’ setting.) Or, it might be possible to mount a battery outside the cab-seat temporarily, until you can obtain a gel battery with the required dimensions. jak
I will try and attach some pics I took while replacing the battery in my Esprit. I suspect the seats are similar and the underseat fittings would I think be the same. As you can see it is a relatively tight fit.
jak
I tried to attach some pics I took while replacing the battery in my Esprit but the site's 100KB restriction means this is impossible. I therefore include this Dropbox link to the folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ivjef9h90mtj9wb/AADL-CMrnvKzISthPvc0tgOMa?dl=0 I suspect the seats are similar and the underseat fittings would I think be the same. Derek Uzzell
Advice on attaching files is in the 22 August 2006 11:31 AM ”Uploading a file or image” posting here https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Code-of-Conduct-and-User-Guidelines/Forum-User-Guide/Forums-FAQ/3930/
Deffheads
I have now fitted the Odessy PC2250 as this was the only option open to me, without fitting a lower amp/hour or relocating battery elsewhere. Thanks for all input from you , I was reassured by battery professionals that the solar/ charging system would be suitable for this battery. Derek Uzzell
Did the “battery professionals” advise you about matching your Dethleffs motorhome’s charging system (that presumably had been set to charge a gel battery) so that it charges the PC2250 AGM battery satisfactorily?
