DavyS
I would like to replace the cab/starter battery on my March 2015 X290 Peugeot Boxer motorhome (although I would imagine that a X290 Fiat Ducato would be the same). But I have visited several online battery sales sites and none can identify a matching battery. Some dont even recognise my registration WX15 EGY, or point me to X250 up to 2015. Tanya replied "thats a tricky one". Unfortunately the battery labels are not visible unless I remove the battery. Does anyone know which battery I need to order, or even just the dimensions? EJB
Check with a Peugeot dealer...it's probably on their data base from the chassis number if the reg number doesn't work?
Derek Uzzell
DavyS The battery needed will be a “019” type with dimensions of Length 353 mm Width 175 mm Height inc. terms 190 mm Suggest you purchase this Varta starter-battery for your Peugeot Boxer (which is what I chose for my 2015 Fiat Ducato X290) https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/varta-silver-dynamic/600-402-083 or possibly this Varta ‘dual purpose’ product https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/varta-professional-dual-purpose/930-090-080 (The original battery is probably made by FIAMM, but - as has been said - the FIAMM label may not be visible with the battery in situ.) DavyS
Derek, thanks for that. And especially the recommendations
Derek Uzzell
The image attached below shows the upper surface of an example of the FIAMM 95Ah 800A starter-battery that was originally fitted to my 2015 Ducato X290. It’s a ‘maintainable’ type of battery, in that its cell caps can be unscrewed allowing the electrolyte-level to be checked and - if necessary - topped up. As may be seen from the image, the “FIAMM” name is small and, with the battery in situ, won’t be visible unless the connector ‘plate’ on the positive terminal is removed. The Varta batteries are both ‘no maintainance’ type (more common nowadays) as their cell caps are covered over and not designed to be removed. With the Ducato battery installation (and presumably a Peugeot Boxer X290’s too) checking all 6 cell-caps of the FIAMM battery would have required disconnection at the positive terminal, but - although I did do this once for piece of mind - the electrolyte-level of all the cells was OK.( The fact that the electrolyte-level of the Varta Silver Dynamic battery I fitted cannot be checked/topped up is not something that worried me.) DavyS
Derek, yes, with the positive busbar in place I can just see the last M in Fiamm and the 800 L5 ! So its a Fiamm 95Ah 800A. Many thanks again.
Derek Uzzell
There was a furore in 2015 about Peugeot Boxers being factory-fitted with a 85Ah starter-battery wityh a CCA of 680A rather than one with a CCA of 800A. This long thread discussed the issue. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Peugeot-Boxer-cab-battery-recall-/38092/
