cronkle
The current economic situation affects us in that the cost of fuel has gone up at the pumps over all of Europe. Having changed vehicles last summer we were lucky in that the new one does over thirty to the gallon as opposed to the previous one which did about twenty-two and therefore the cost of fuel on this years holiday was no worse than last year. More to the point if the weather next summer is as poor as the last two, and I suspect it will be, the planned trip to the Loire valley may be damp enough to prompt us to move on to somewhere like Italy or somewhere where the weather is better. So, who knows, we could end up anywhere----just following the sun.
Guest Tracker
We had 6 weeks in Scandinavia in June and July this year all the way to the Nordkapp and back and only ONE wet day (Tromso) in mid June in all that period. Baltic coastal Sweden gave us temperatures of between 25 and 35 degrees in mid July and no rain or strong winds. Only as we headed back in Denmark did the weather deteriorate - and how - with gales and torrential rain which lasted until we got back into France - two days! Basil
Tracker - 2008-08-21 8:08 PM Being retired and debt free the credit crunch makes no difference to us at all. The only holidays we do in the UK are weekend rallies and/or shows, plus the regular 600 miles to Dover and back that it is hard to avoid due to where we live. The unwelcoming nature of most UK towns and the government's attitude towards motorists in general are the crowning glory of our discontent. ALL main holidays abroad from 2006 onwards. I could have written this myself, exactly the same for us except we used to have a 'mix' long before 2006 but have dropped the lomg UK breaks for about 10 years now. We were due to go over to France tomorrow (06/09/08) but unforseen circumstances have forced a change to a month or so later, but we will still go, hopefully next year too.
