salsaboy Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Does anyone know of any campsites that allow you have a camp fire? I've just got back from a trip to see family in South Africa and camping with a fire is the done thing there. It adds to the whole experience in my view.
colin Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 I have stayed at sites with a fire pit, but I'm afraid I can't remember the names :-(
ROON Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 salsaboy, my daughter will know of some but she is away at the moment at some festival in Northamptonshire, so I will post them for you when she gets back. guyropegourmet Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Salsaboy I've stayed on many campsites and used my '1600 rpm BBQ' (a washing machine drum!) with no objections from site owners - check out my website for details: http://www.guyropegourmet.com cheers Chef
neilgeezer Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Hi Folks, Llyn Gwynant campsite by Snowdon allows campfires on their firetrays, you can only use the firewood that they sell at £4 a go but that is ok as a campsite full of campers foraging through the local woods would be akin to a plague of locusts. The site is basic, no shop, just a wardens hut and toilet/shower block, but the location makes it the coolest place to camp in Wales. The site is on the shore of Llyn Gwynant, with a crystal clear river feeding in to it. We spend a lot of time there with our canoe, once the children are in bed it is so good to sit around the fire chatting, playing guitar and watching "natures TV", hope this is of help. they have a website at www.llyngwynant.co.uk good luck Neil
J9withdogs Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Is this the one? http://www.gwynant.com/ I can't get the link in the previous post to work.
Dave Angela Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Stumbled accross this website that lists campsites that allow campfires http://www.campfiresburning.org/sites.php Two we know of in cumbria are Fisherground farm at Eskdale , have stayed there , and also Grizedale camping and horseriding centre ,( Bowkerstead farm ) , which is on our "must visit list " .
pyewhacker Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 A bit late for this year I know ,but since threads last forever I thought I would add my knowledge for future reference. I've tried the lists in this thread and by far the most comprehensive and up to date is at http://campfires.co.cc/ ,hope this is of use to someone. I wont camp anywhere they don't allow fires
Hymer C 9. Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Pyewhacker, thank you for a brilliant link I have saved it to my favorites hoping that some at least will take motorhomes, welcome to the forum :-) Carol.
Andy_C Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Pitchup.com lets you select many criteria when searching for campsites, one of which is campfires allowed. Andy
AliB Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Keld in North Yorkshire is great but can get a little noisy at night as every camper seems to have a fire and sits up late. There are other fields which are quieter. Knotlow farm, Flagg near Buxton is our other favourite, plenty of room to spread out here. Both of these we found through UKcampsites.co.uk This summer in Germany the site at Schierker had a communial fire going most nights. Some people even pretended they could play the guitar! http://www.harz-camping.com/ We used to be canvas campers but are now using a motorhome.
