Ile de re and La Rochelle please?

Hi peeps

 

Angie and I changed our bus on Friday and after a weekend working things out are heading for La Rochelle area on the 5th Sept for a week.

Any one recomend a site or two in the area please

There is a big Aire in La Rochelle itself, close to the harbour. It is in a large, free car-park and you will find yourself surrounded in the morning by parked cars if you stay in the middle; better by far is to find yourself a spot on the edges.

 

Water and dumping are available for free and no restriction on length of stay.

 

On the Ile du Ré, we have stopped at Camp Municipal les Remparts.

 

Don't forget that there is a toll to cross the bridge to the Ile, which in 2006 was 9 euro (you only pay to get onto the Ile, not to leave).

When we last visited the Ile de Re in 2006 we stayed on a site called

" Camping le Cormoran " close to the village of Ars-en-Re.

 

Enjoyed our stay there.

 

Great place for cycling - very flat !

Hi Geoff & Angie, one of my favourite places Ile de re, there is a large Aire in La Rochelle it is huge right between the harbour one side and the sea the other side, you can get a water taxi into the town of La Rochelle. On Ile de re we always stay at camping L Ocean near to Coulard it is in the Camping Cheque Book we have stayed a few times and always found it good, what ever you do take your cycles with you as Ile de re is made for cycles, St, Martins has a good aire very near to the town but it can get full quickly, but do visit St Martins and La Flotte, if you like Oysters go to the end of the harbour, at La Flotte you get really good ones for just a few euros, where ever you end up enjoy it is a lovely place.
