twooks
may be a little late to some of you - but smaller vans can now access the car park at St Georges Field, [more or less opposite the Caravan Club site at Rowntrees Park ie other side of the river] it's been turned in to a joint coach /car park so the barriers have come down. unfortunately they've nicked about a third of the parking area to give access to - currently - about 6 coaches >:-( from St Georges field you can stroll along the river bank [past the excellent belgian coffee/chocolat shop la place verte] into york if you go upriver - or downriver to a gentle stroll to the millennium bridge and then back up on the right bank. on the down river stroll there is an excellent cheese shop up off the riverside just after the junction with the river foss http://www.laplaceverte.co.uk/ http://www.yorkbeerandwineshop.co.uk/beershop%20Site/contents.html enjoy B-)

twooks
It's a car park with car sized parking bays, presumably if you can get 2 bays together and overlap you'd be ok if you paid for 2 slots. Your best bet for a day visit would be one of the Park n Rides, the one with the most space is the Designer Outlet at the junction of the A19 / A64 because there is always the option of parking at the Outlet itself. There is 'dedicated' motor home / commercial van street parking on Foss Islands Road, there is also several areas of street parking scattered around the city, but some of it is limited to just 1 hour. Where are you coming from, where are you thinking of staying ? York is compact and generally very busy, and can be a pain to get around at times. I personally think that at over 6 metres you should stick with Park and Ride, would hate for us to get a bad name by abusing what little space there is. A down side with the Foss Islands street parking is that it is popular with commercial vans - especially if there are any events / markets etc on in the centre. There are retail centres not far from this parking - but again, I would hate to see it abused and the problem with bigger motorhomes is that they are usually very noticeable . GJH
York is less than an hour down the A19 for us so when we visit we just use the car rather than the van. We still use the P&R though (Rawcliffe in our case) as it's a lot easier than facing the traffic and cheaper than paying the city centre parking charges. Stuart
As I recall, the Parking is free and those over a certain age have a free bus ride with their bus pass. Stuart
