HWO
Hi all I see that Maplin are selling 1Kw inverters for £90 which an't too bad a price. my question is :- Does anybody see a problem in parallelling the output of two inverters up to give you a 2Kw inverter ? Are you out there Clive?
Guest peter
I think you would have a problem keeping them both "in phase" which could destroy them both.
kedavi
You will not be able to synchronise the phased outputs. Also, just a single 1kW inverter will demand a massive input current - about 100 amps. Typically to be any use you would need a battery bank in the order of many hundreds or even thousands of Amp hours - at the very least 5 or 10 large leisure batteries worth. The inverter(s) would hammer the batteries in no time and you would need a very serious charger to top them up. The connection cables between the batteries and to the inverter(s) would be very large and the heat generated by the inverter(s) would need to be managed. Then double it assuming you can get them to stay in phase. Not viable I'm afraid. You could buy a 2kW inverter generator for a lot less than the cost of this lot. And it would work. And weight less than quarter of a tonne.
Clive
Peter is spot on. Unless the inverters have been designed to be operated as a pair and "phased up" then its a no no. At £90 its no chance. Victron or Mastervolt equipment maybe. C.
HWO
Hi Yes I see the phasing problem . Silly me I should have thought about it properly in the first place.

Thanks Clive. :D It's nice to be able to get it right now and again. (^)
