Brussels

Hi all!

We're visiting Brussels in 2 weeks time, and would like to know from anyone out there what the best options are for campsites?

Are there aires in Brussels?  Or a good campsite?  We're mainly interested in the old part of town.

I've read that it is better to camp elsewhere, like Ghent or Bruges, and train in.  Is this the case?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Mom,

Never camped in brussels, but did try to park once, spent 3 hours going round in circles.

We pulled up in a quewe to turn left at a large roundabout in the city, didn't move for 20 minutes, realised that the bu***rs had parked up and gone to work! lol

Gave up, and whent elsewhere.

Pete

Camping Grimbergen, Veldkanstraat 64, 1850 Grimbergen. It is about 20 minutes from the local bus station, and the bus takes you all the way into the central station, which only a short walk from the centre of Brussels. If you have access to the Caravan Club's Caravan Europe Volume 2, look under 'Bruxelles'.

Nice quiet site with helpful owners ( at least they were about 5 years ago). Also there are some nice cycle routes from the site (Grimbergen beer is nice, too).

We used an Aire at Grimbergen in December as I believe the camp site was shut. The Aire was basically in a car park in the town but was very quiet at night. We were only supposed to stay one night but stayed two as we wanted to meet our daughter in Brussels. The Aire was only a 15 minute walk from the bus which then took you to the station to catch the train into Brussels. We found the Aire in Camperstop Europe. Hope this is usefull (lol)

We have stayed on a Municipal site in Gent on two occasions. Lovely site in a park, good facilities, restaraunt/bar on site. 2 mins walk to bus which takes you in to centre of Gent, change on to local tram opposite where bus drops you off which takes you to railway station. train direct to Brussels. Enjoyed Brussels and Gent. cannot remember name of site but go on line and look at Eurocamp website they have it listed.

We have visited Brussels many times in the last 18 years.

We always stay at the somewhat rustic but inexpensive Camping in

Beersel.

if you stay in Beersel, an absolute must restaurant is Drei

I have never found an "easy" direct aire or camping near Brussels,

but it's a very pleasant maybe 20 min. walk thru farmpaths to the

train station (hang a right & go down the hill after you walk past

the friterie). Then you take a brief ride back to Halle, where you

can grab a train that takes you right into the centrum (gotta make

sure you take the right train - they don't all stop at the most

central station, the name of which escapes me - maybe Gare Centrale?).

A general Belgium note: a non-profit aire association (run by unpaid

volunteers) has started up called Nocterra - they now run the old

Vogelzang camping in Antwerp, which is very convenient to the city &

reasonable. When I was there last year they said they were looking

into something near Brussels.
