Advice on Fiat dealers

Stewart

Recommended Posts

I despair of the quality of service I am getting from my Fiat dealer. It's too long a story to bore people with, but when your service report includes the tread depth and tyre pressure for your non-existent spare tyre you know there are problems.

My problem, however, is who to go to. The etiquette on this forum seems to stop people from naming names so I don't know where to get decent service from a Fiat dealer in Scotland? Please step forward if you can tell me.

Given my experience with my local dealer so far, I would say that distance is no object for me.

Sorry to hear another tale of Fiat woe Stewart.

There is nowt wrong with naming names but don't me surprised if the thread gets 'pulled' - but hopefully not before a good few folk have had a good look see!

Stewart, how old is your van ? If it is no longer under warranty (or extended warranty) then why take to a FIAT dealer. Most parts these days are Universal and if you find a good local garage that will service your vehicle they will be able to get parts that may be required. I have stopped taking my motorhome to the dealer in my area, cannot mention them by name but they are 'Downhills' from me *-) . I now take my van to what is an ISUZU dealership but also a large HGV Breakdown/Recovery service. They do servicing and MOT's on Trucks, Buses, Motorhomes and cars and are really good value. Not had a problem yet. The only downside is that they are not Motorhome specialists and therefore do not undertake habitation checks or supply these sort of parts but there are other Motorhome dealers inthe area if and when this is required.

The non existant spare tyre fiasco is surely worth of a TV comedy exposure.

How about sending it to the "I've got News For You" Editors with a copy of the details so they can publish it for all to see.

It must be the gaff of the year

Bit off thread but you might like this.

Donkeys years ago, whilst we were still shopkeepers, we were serving the local plumber. He's telling us about his car going for a service to the local, (now defunct) Ford dealer.

Up pulls a car with 2 lads in who have their mechanic overalls on, one jumps out to go into the bakers next door. Les, the plumber, muses, hmm, just like my car that one.

He steps a bit nearer to the door to look at the car and of course you've guessed it, they were doing the butty run in his car.

It wouldn't have been as bad had the mechanic not sat there revving the engine and spinning the wheels as they left.

No they didn't charge him for the service as it happened 8-)

The best advice I can give on Fiat dealers is this.

The first and best way to avoid Fiat dealers is not to buy a Fiat - buy a Ford, Renault, VW or Merc instead!

Second best way is to buy an older Ducato (pre X250) and get it serviced by the independent garages who generally do a better job, charge less, and smile - or do it yourself and save even more and KNOW it is done well!

That assumes that once you lift the bonnet you know what you are looking at :D

Lots of oily bits connected by squigely floppy bits and odd shaped plasticy thingy bobs - and two oil filler orifices - or is that orifii?

Bl***y hell, all those years payng bills to garages, if I had known it was as easy as this I could have got the OH to do the service, she is used to handling squigely floppy bits :$ :$ :$
