Syd, I am sure that this could be of use to some folk, but note that it only works on "b" and "g" Wi-Fi. If you have a newer "n" setup, it will not work at all and would probably be unnecessary anyway, due to the greater range and power output of "n".

 

A simple and very cheap alternative is to make a parabolic reflector for your existing Wi-Fi aerial out of a takeaway carton lid or similar. I have done this and it works well, see:
