hugo
I have a new Adria Vision, I fitted my own radio as they do not suppy one! Although they have fitted a windsceen mounted ariel which is powered. The reception is bad to none existant at times, I remember reading something about ground plane i:e a large metal surface to which you have to ground the outer coaxl, as mine is all plastic this is not posible, can anyone help as this is driving me nuts! :'(
hallii
A ground plane would be doable 88 - 107 Mhz but not at the medium wave frequencies, it would have to be very large. A ground plane could be nothing more than three wires soldered to the co-ax outer and spread out equally. Quarter wave would be about 80cm at 94 Mhz. Might be easier to make a simple dipole from thin wire and fix it somewhere away from metal. There are good antennas that do not need any ground plane but these are a bit specialist and probably not suitable for mobile use. I would carefully check all the connections for the antenna first, pay particular attention to the plug and shorts. make all connections with a soldered or at least crimp joint.
