overnight stop - dover port

You'd do much better crossing the channel and parking up on the French side.  That way, when you wake up in the morning you're already 'there'.

When you get off the boat just follow the map and re-enter the port and park up in front of the booking office along with lots of other people.

It's all down to price with us. If we get a cheap early morning crossing we overnight on Marine Parade. If we get a late night one we overnight in Norfolkline's car park in Dunkerque, or if we're going to Calias/Boulogne we use the Auchan at Saint Martin Les Boulogne.

We tend to favour Norfolklines as they are generally cheaper and don't charge for our dog.

For overnight stops:

In France:

Look at the following thread which has links to other relevant threads:

http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=17800&start=1

For an overnight stop at Dover:

We've used Dover a lot, we use Marine Parade/Waterloo Crescent/The Esplanade (they all run into each other).

Dover overnight parking

Directions from the main road leading down to the port - when you get to the bottom of the road and the large roundabout (with the port on your right), turn left on to the main road into Dover itself (dual carriageway, you'll go through a set of junction traffic lights then go straight on again at the next roundabout. You'll pass a road on your left with a width restriction, now continue along and take the next left turning into Wellesley Road and at the end is Marine Parade/Waterloo Crescent/The Esplanade. Turn RIGHT and park along that bit along with the other vans that'll no doubt be there. Last time we were there the council had put up signs to show that motorhomes and caravans could park along that part overnight so you shouldn't have any problems.

Regards

Mel

Does anyone know if you can still park overnight at Cite Europe. We are going over via the tunnel Friday sfternoon, and would like to rest up before getting on our way Saturday morning.

We too use the Dock at Calais whenever we go by ferry, but would use Cite Rurope this time if it is still possible.

Thanks,

Folks - headin to france via Dover for the first time - can we overnight park at Dover port 8-)[/quote

We got caught a couple of years ago and 60 quid fine for parking on seafront, admittedly with a caravan car combination, for parking on seafront right in front of great big sign saying motorcycles and caravans only.. Strong debate with wasp lady, who insisted that wording on front of meter overrode the b....y great parking sign. ( the meter had the caravan symbol crossed out !!!!!)

Great big row which got very heated, but better half calmed me down, and we sent the fine in from France. On return to UK, launched an appeal and the boss lady in Dover inspected the signage and agreed that it was ambiguous relative to the meter wording, so we got a refund. She advised future use should be esplanade end only, or the carpark off the roundabout immediately before the esplanade west end. I think this is a lorry park. So advise is to read the signs carefully, AND read the front of the meters VERY CAREFULLY.
