ike
We've been re-charging our van battery on EHU at home, off and on, over the past few weeks cos of the very cold weather. I've only just noticed that it uses a huge amount of electricity ie the meter whizzed round a full revolution in 14 seconds, when unhooked it took 100+ seconds. Is this normal? And if so why would it use so much just to charge the batteries - 2 leisure/ 1 main? My meter reading has shot way up, and of course so will my bill!ike

Clive
To fully re-charge a 110 ampere hour battery and assuming a 60% charger efficiency you will use about 2.5 units of electricity. Not a lot! However if you have the heating turned on to stop the van freezing up you will use oodles more. C.
ike
Thanks for your replies. Brambles - I had double banked the question in case the one on the "old" thread wasn't picked up and I'm very impatient. Hubby swears he turned the heater off. I'll double check and if it's not on it looks as thought something's not right.ike
