Brambles Posted March 20, 2010 Share Posted March 20, 2010 Hi Jonathan, I have just checked the Fiat parts list and it is about 3K for a reconditioned one and 4K for a new one. Not cheap. You might find it a lot cheaper to find one from an aftermarket gearbox rebuilder. Maybe Nick fom Euroserve will have some comments on best source, but I suggest maybe a second hand one might be the way to go if cost is an issue, however finding a low mileage one might prove difficult. silverback Posted March 21, 2010 Author Share Posted March 21, 2010 hi jon had reckoned on that price (!) far too much :-( the box has been grinding away for the last 2 year, ive got around it to a certain extent, we were gonna sell it, but cant with this 8-) so doing it up, my missus says keeping it for another 2 yr, so might as well get it done took it to my mate, hes took the gearbox out and took it to a gearbox specialist his diagnosis!!! this is a very very poorly box *-) £900 recon new parts etc so.... deal or no deal (!) at the end of the day its a sleepy van sindrome Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There have been numerous threads about 5th gear failures on the Fiat 2.8JTD and repairs for that seem to be a relatively low cost. silverback Posted March 21, 2010 Author Share Posted March 21, 2010 flicka no nowt to do with the 5th gear, seen that thread as well,its the syncro whats gone going up the gears was good it was going from 4th to 3rd grinding then into 2nd grinding, but if i was gentle!!!!!! it went in the box bloke said.... youve done a good job driving this mess.. but we dont want to get into the known probs.. they have always been there (!)
