We're off .... !

... in a few minutes, to Dover. We'll spend to night behind the Premier Inn, then we're SUPPOSED to be on the 08.15 tomorrow. Seafrance have had a strike Fri/Sat, effects still lingering, but website is saying to turn up as normal, they're booking people on other carriers. But it may be sorted by morning eh?

Visiting friends at Serre Chevalier (in the Alpes), then on to Provence "proper," back Sunday 18th. May log on occasionally to see if you're all behaving though!

Returning from France in January, Seafrance on strike but we did not even know until they gave us tickets for P&O all seemed to work fine with no delay so have a good trip and do not worry about it.

We turned up at Dover as instructed, at check-in time for the 08.15 on Easter Monday. The SeaFrance strike was still on so they offered us a choice: Norfolk Line sailing at 10.00 or pop round to Folkestone and they'd transfer us to Le Shuttle. Bit of a no-brainer - we'd have booked LeShuttle this time for the speed, if it hadn't been so darned expensive, so since SF were kindly offering to pay I bit their hand off. Ended up disembarking at exactly the same time we would've done from the SF ferry.

Took two days to Serre Chevalier, using the toll roads and putting my foot down (but took a lovely break at Monsieur Laval's France Passion place at Bligny, where he makes real Champagne. http://www.y-laval.fr/ So good, we bought a couple of bottles). Last section of the journey was AWESOME - over the Col du Lautaret. Snow-covered landscape, clear blue sky, beautiful.

After a brief time with our friends, on into Provence. More detail of the places we visited, and pictures, later, if anyone wants it.

Not being TV motorhomers, we only heard on Thursday about (a) the volcanic ash/air transport crisis and (b) a 10-day-old French railway strike (wondered why the Aires at stations had been so peaceful!).

Came back more gently, allowing 4 days from Fontaine de Vaucluse to Calais. We were booked on the 23.00 last night, whcih was on time, and arrived home at 01.30 BST today.

Brilliant trip all round. Thoroughly relaxed now and ready for anything -but I'd better not say that too loudly, He's listening!
