Camos Crank Up

We had one fitted to our caravan, it was reasonably easy to set up except for one small fault that developed after it's fourth year.

When you wind up the dish the arm with the Lnb on it part ceased up so that the arm did not drop to it's correct level and made tuneing imposible, took me a couple of days to work out what was wrong.

The joint is a aluminium mixture type metal that corrodes so look after that part, spares are readily available

We have had ours for one year now and must hold the record for time getting correct signal ! !.First week needed popeye arms to turn it, got that done .Now sometimes an hour to get signal with cups of tea between and Wife calming me down. Then found its loose and when getting signal will lose it right away when fitting handle back in to its position . Couple of weeks ago RoadPro took it apart and shortened the spindle so making it tighter. Got signal that same day again near to 1/2 hour and thinking of taking spinach before using it again. Had simple outside dish before and no problems apart from it being outside .

you can get a fully auto dome now for under £1000, is the camos really worth the bother?

Syd, yours is not a Camos crankup if it has an arm with LNB on the end, the Camos crankup is a flat Planar antenna.

I did have one on our last motorhome and found it very easy to use. First set your elevation, turn the dish to face East, set your signal finder to about mid scale reading then turn the dish SLOWLY towards the South. The first sinal you get that is strong enough to send your meter full scale is Astra 2, when you hit it stop moving the dish and turn your meter down. Fine tune to get the strongest signal then do the same for elevation. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to find Astra 2 as long as you have clear line of sight to the South East.

If you're heading into southern Europe, the domes are not large enough to get the encrypted UK channels that broadcast on the 2a & 2b north beams and 2d is dodgy from the French border. The Camos Crank Up Plus with the 60cm dish is the best.

what auto dish would you recommend that would be better plse...It cant be to big as it will be for a panel van.

but if not bothered re ITV/BBC I thought you could look at other satellites for the odd english program and bit of news? :-S

If you're not bothered with BBC/ITV then a dome is perfect. If you've got a Sky box you can now get ITV all over Europe with a dome, and you can also access BBC 'red button' streams via BBC News and BBC Parliament.

We've just returned from a month, touring the whole of France, and our Camos 30cm Dome picked up nearly all the channels, including BBC, ITV, 4 & 5, as far west as Perpignan on the Med and all the way up the Atlantic coast from Biarritz. In other words it worked all over France.

However, on the Med coast, the five main channels were fine during daylight but disappeared as it got dark or in heavy cloud, but most of the subscription channels were fine.

Of course, apart from BBC, all the ITV/C4/C5 channels are available with smaller dishes like yours along with a Sky box and viewing card.
