tonyishuk
The following about covers it http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=17856&posts=4 I would add that make sure that each battery is fused near to the positive terminal, in case any wiring gets cut or frayed. crinklystarfish
If you are sure that there is absolutely no prospect of the + wire connecting the two batteries coming loose or being in any way worn / damaged, then you could do away with the individual fuses. That's the simplest solution - but you have to be sure that the connecting cable is well protected and insulated. The following, modified from Clive MG's illustration (hope you don't mind Clive) is how I've done my own, but my batteries sit next to each other under the driver's seat.To ensure long life, try to keep them in a high state of charge and don't ever run them right down. anything less than about 12.4v across the terminals after they've been left completely unloaded for a few hours is running them low - recharge at this point if not sooner. crinklystarfish
Oooh, and with lead acid batts, you will also need to ensure each one is vented to atmosphere, run the breather tube from each through the floor. Batts can give off explosive gas in some charging circumstances which, if exposed to flame / spark, can end badly.
