'Organised' trips to France

We have been going to France for five years independantly and very much enjoyed it. We now feel we would like to tour with a group - not too organised but people for support. I have looked at some of the escorted trips and apart from being eye wateringly expensive they include activities etc that you may not want to participate in. Any info. would be gratefully received.

One thing you may like to try and take advantage of mega cheap channel crossings is to book for a multi-place trip with Eurocamp or a n other where you can take advantage of local couriers on the camps and there is no limit on the number of changes you can do and you can sleep in their tents or your van.

You could do this for say a month and then ring the ferry company and tell them to change the return portion of your ticket to november 12 or WHY.

Some offers in the early season can be as little as 35 quid sio well worth a go.

Cannot understand why no one does this way of getting over the Oggin instead of the more usual way of booking yourself.

Just a thought. I used to work for Eurocamp and noted that some people did this and ir always seemed a shrewd way of going on esp. as their insurance applies.

LIke you we always go on our own. We have met people on route, and teamed up occasionally, which is nice , but still leaves you independent.

How about asking on this forum , if any one is going your way? Or maybe arange to meet up somewhere? Lots of us do travel "a Deux"

Give some idea of time and place of your planned itinery, and you may get some responses

Going to Dunkerque on April 17 th and travelling over a period of a few days to Aubignan as that area is cheap at the camp there and the weather is nice at that time of year and then we travel over to the Dax and Mimezan area and then Vendee. The whole trip takes about 3 months.

Would be glad to help people get used to the trip and I can speak French as you can see from previous I worked for Campsites for 6 years.

I wish you well and hope you find a suitable group.

We tried a couple of times in years gone by, but I soon realised that I was not a "groupie". We now travel alone, but not alone, we meet lots of interesting people on our way through France, Spain and Portugal. We stop at aires and wildcamp all over the place, you meet the best people at these places.

So if you are going the same way, wave and say hello, we chat with all nationalities, A bit of French, a few words of German and we manage.

We've never been on an escorted tour, but have been on a few sites when they've been there. It's not something that we would like, although apparently you can join in if you want, or not if you don't want to. If it is about having the security of having back-up in case of problems, then you've got it with one of those of course. But it does seem to come at a very steep price from what I've seen!

Difficult to judge what you are, actually, looking for.  You mention support from a group.  What kind of support are you looking for the group to provide?

We have been with other couples but we meet up each evening and do our own thing in the day. Each morning we plot our next stop on our Sat Navs and meet up in the afternoon or evening that day.

We do like to move quite often and don't do many sites but more Aires, we find this works very well and we also try to have more than one stop organised just incase that is full or not to our liking.

We tend to plan before we go i.e. final destination and any places any of us would like to stop on the way and then the plan just seems to fall into place.

Already planning last week in July 1st week August for 3 vans going down towards Bordeaux and coast.

The more you plan out aloud on forums like this the more chance you will come across others of a similar mind. It is nice to know you have back up along the route but not living in each others pockets so to speak.
