Hopesy
Stupid qustion time but it's never stopped me before.. I'm probably off to Germany this summer and have been told that credit cards can be a bit of a problem. I take it that this card acts as a debit card and would be widely accepted in that country? peterandlinda
Hi Surprisingly, Germany is very much a cash economy and many places will not accept credit or debit cards. There are lots of hole in the wall cash machines though and we've found it much easier to get cash using our Caxton euro cards to pay for stuff. Cards are pretty widely accepted in Germany. Most camp sites, all filling stations, most shops. The only places I have had one refused are in the shops they call supermarkets. These are much smaller than the ones in the UK or France, more like a large Spar, and not that good. OK for basics but we found it better for a lot of food to go to specialist shops, depends how much you like your food I guess. They will however usually have a sign if they take cards so have a look first. We got caught a couple of times so best to have a bit of cash. Patricia
I have a Lloyds TSB travel money card which I assume is the same kind of card. I tried to use it at an unmanned service station for diesel in France but it was refused but used it in a supermarket tonight. It would not work like a normal card (i.e. enter my code) but the cashier put it through manually and I had to sign it. There is a charge of €2 if I use it to obtain cash.
