As Formica sheet material is either 4' x 2' (too small) or 8' x 4' (expensive)

An new table top may be of interest - 2 possible options (other sources available)

Thanks for your idea has given us something to think about, hadn't thought about just replacing the top, its the table that makes up the bed in the van. You have got hubby putting on his thinking head now! We are quite new to all this. Again many thanks.

Wood veneers are difficult to lay without the appropriate equipment. Most decorative real wood veneers are not available in the with you need and sheets would need to be edge jointed before laying.

Suggest you purchase a suitable table or table top and modify it.

On one the previous Hymers we damaged the bar table top with a book corner falling onto it.

The top and work surfaces where in a dark blue marble type effect.

We purchased something similar to Formica from http://www.idsurfaces.co.uk/ to-gether with a can of contact adhesive and stuck the new covering over the old, we did this on the damaged table and the worktop.

Using an almost white finish this lightened up the interior dramatically, in the newer models I don't believe they use the dark finish any more.
