Molly Merc
Hi everyone, I bought a 1993 Autotrail Comanche on a Merc 208D base last year, no power steering, does anyone know if it's possible to get an electronic power steering unit to fit this vehicle? Have tried a firm EZ power steering who advertise in Practical Classic cars but to no avail. Thanks
Dave Newell
Technically it is possible to utilise an electrically powered power steering pump but you will also need to change the steering box for a power assisted unit and that may well be where the problems arise, spare parts for vehicles of this age are tending to either be expensive, rare or both. Add to that the cost of having the conversion done if you can't DIY and you may well be on a non starter. D.

spospe
Have you looked at the SVO website? http://www.svoptions.co.uk/motorhome.htm
BGD
Consider: 1. Taller and thinner profile front tyres....this can make a BIG difference. 2. Five psi or so more air pressure in those front tyres. 3. Fitting a bigger circumference steering wheel. Seriously, it can help. 4. Moving as much weight in the MH further back, and to behind the rear wheels so far as is practicable to reduce the weight loading on the front axle (subject to your rear axle max weight.....) Molly Merc
Recently fitted new tyres all round, but will try extra psi. Steering wheel is pretty big. Will try your suggestion of loading. Thanks Geoff

George Collings
As far as I know electrical power assistance is mainly found on small to medium size cars and car derived vans . Hydraulic systems are the norm for medium and upwards size cars and commercial vehicles. Electrical systems are cheaper to produce and are more energy efficient a factor of greater imprptance on small vehicles. As PAS was an option on the 208 SH parts should be available from breakers yards or even new if you can find a mortgage.
