Difficult to compare pirices and this store does not usually have the same offers in both UK and France but just compared a weather station selling this week at Lidl in France €14.99 and in the UK £9.90. That makes France 50% more! A vacuum too was much cheaper in the UK..Prices over here are much higher this year. Just paid €1.52 litre for petrol from a supermarket - that makes it more or less the same price as in the UK maybe? Bit out of touch now!

That's being a tad selective!

Try like-for-like prices on any bottle of red wine. Or any bottle of white wine. Or beer. Or whisky. Or whiskey. Or cider. Or brandy. Etc.

Having said that, when we were up in south west France recently, we found prices to be substantially higher than here in Spain.

Noticeably more for all shop-bought items, for vehicle fuel; and most definitely a LOT more for drinks/food in all cafes, bars and restaurants.

Lidl, and other supermarkets do vary their prices depending on location. We noted that the identical items offered by Lidl Spain were 30% more expensive in Lidl France, so on the return trip, stocked up before heading north.

Even in the UK supermarkets of the same chain do not always offer the same price everywhere. They argue that they have to follow local trends, so may match another offer locally, or not as the case may be.

There is also the issue of VAT to consider as well.

We are finding prices in Lidl France about the same as UK perhaps a tad cheaper. We paid 1.35 euro today at a hypermarket not seen any yet as high as 1.52.

I expect we are in for a shock when we get back next week to UK fuel prices!

Anyway why worry the weather is nice and warm and sunny again today.
