Does anyone know of places to camp here please, other than the only site we can find on the web.

Have tried the search facility, but as usual it's not working again.

Thanks

Peter,

last year we visited Slovenia, and the Bled area.

As we fancied visiting Lake Bohinj (rumoured to be much quieter than Lake Bled, and in practice it was) we tried the campsite at the top of Lake Bohinj (Zlatorog) which turned out to be very busy and quite disorganised (as well as not very flat!).

We drove back down the valley to Bohinjska Bistrica and ended up at:

....which was very good (lots of space, freedom to park where you wanted, easy walk into the town, and free wi-fi).

The point being that there is a regular, short journey, bus service to Bled, and the train (which is cheaper than the bus!) goes to the other end of Lake Bled from the town.

We went in on the bus, and back on the train.

Having walked round Lake Bled, one and a half times, and past the campsite, we were pleased we had visited, but very happy we'd chosen the campsite away from Bled that we did.

Full range of facilities in Bohinjska Bistrica, and we had a great meal out in one of the restaurants.

We stated at Lake Bohinj in 2007. The site got busy quickly so you'll need to grab a pitch earlier in the day than later if you turn up during the Summer holidays.

The site has some flat areas but we could only find a place on a small slope - we coped with our ramps. There was a little noise from the bar area during the evening but not a problem when sleeping in our van. The key benefit of the site is the beach and lake area - it was lovely paddling about and sitting in the sun. Unfortunately, the weather turned bad the next day so we went on down to Croatia.

We would go back should we return to Slovenia - it was / is a nice place for a visit and certainly quieter than the sites around Lake Bled that seemed busy and too posh and expensive for us..

I based myself here for a week when I was in Slovenia;

Thoroughly recommend it.....very peaceful and quiet.....excellent facilities and the historical town of Radovljica is only a 5 minute walk from the site and well worth a visit. It's quite small but very pretty with nice coffee bars, restaurants etc.

Lake Bled is only 8kms from Radovljica.

Most of the west of Slovenia is 'posh and expensive' and many properties around Bled for instance easily equal high end UK prices. But travel across east and you see the real Slovenia. Small farms just about existing, homes which look semi-derelict, poorly dressed people......this is the 'other side' of Slovenia. The serious money is all in the west in places like Bled and the tiny piece of coastal area in Trieste which is where all foreign visitors flock to.

We saw some of the poorer parts when we drove from Lublijana down to Rijeka in Croatia - perhaps not as poor as the further east but very basic conditions and a marked contrast to the facilities on the super motor way paid for by the EU that takes drivers to the south in record time.

Of the 3 countries that we went to in the FRY, Bosina & Herzegovina were our favourites - with the exception of Mostar, people seemed genuinely nice and welcoming. I guess that Slovenia and Croatia gets so used to tourists that they are not bothered about making them so welcome. If we return to FRY, we'll have a little look around more of Slovenia but will probably avoid much of Croatia and explore more of Bosnia.

Just remember to keep your driving lights on at all times when driving in these countries - I was fined 30 Euros for not having my lights on at mid-day on a very bright sunny day in Aug.
