PJay
Just discovered that light on fridge not working. fridge is working on mains elec. so guess it may be the bulb Are these bulbs standard?, as we are of to France in the morning. Being a Swift van , will we be able to get a bulb in France, or Spain? Any one know of a place where we can purchase one, maybe in Brittany? as that is where we are heading to-morrow. Thanks in advance PJay
Brambles
If you mean the interior lamp bulb it probably looks like a glass fuse (small festoon bulb) and is Thetford number 624003. You will not easily get one in normal electrical or auto places so best bet is caravan spares shops and most will stock. I think you need a 12 volt supply to fridge for lamp to work, even when fridge is on mains.
Derek Uzzell
If your fridge is made by Dometic, then these links may be useful: http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19609&posts=6 http://www.caravantalk.org.uk/topic/26798-fridge-bulb/ http://www.caravantalk.org.uk/topic/39197-dometic-fridge-light/ http://www.caravantalk.org.uk/topic/31613-dometic-rm371l-fridge-with-light/ Big place Brittany, but there are quite a few motorhome dealerships near Rennes, particularly to the North at La Mézière. GOOGLE on “camping-car rennes” for a list. I suggest you wait until you return the UK before bothering about this, as it’s hardly a life-threatening fault and spares prices in France can be very nasty. As Brambles advises, the fridge interior light is 12V powered and should come on when the fridge door is opened irrespective of whether the fridge is running on 12V, 230V or gas. The only way to stop the bulb coming on when the door is opened is to ensure that the fridge’s operating-control is turned to the OFF position. Brambles
I posted it was a miniature festoon bulb, if a later fridge could be a 3 or 5 watt watt halogen bulb. Best to remove bulb and check before buying one. Ther has also been problems with later fridges and the door switch not working, but I think this usually leaves the light on. All second guessing as we do not know what model fridge you have, but I am going to jump for what I said earlier.....12 volts is switched off. JohnP
It could also be the reed switch which is mounted in the top edge of the fridge (Dometic 7*** series) which operates by a magnet in the door. The position of the switch can be identified because it is black in colour. With the fridge switched on use a small magnet and move it around the position of the switch and the light may come on. Apparently it's a 5-year old Dometic fridge. This would be roughly contemporary with my own RM7605L fridge-freezer and my Dometic User Manual says the bulb is a 12V/2W one. The type is not specified (and the photos are hopeless) but the instructions suggest the bulb is easy enough to replace and I expect it would be readily obtainable on-line for a pittance.
