Sticking with C&CC Clubcare this year. Not much dearer than comfort queot.

That's good to know, so did we. I hope, believe it is better to insure with people that know the business, even if it is underwritten by someone else....what ever your beliefs are about the C&CC.

Yes Brian, your right it proberbly is a sweeping assumption, but previous experience when buying motor insurance has told me that the cheapest is not always the best. (That is not a reflection on Comfort at all who i am sure are a competent insurer).

It was just my opinion that i feel happier being insured by people in the business. I have always found their service quick and efficent.

Not quite sure what you mean by in the business, though, Caroline. Presumably, not the insurance business?

I think you may be being put off by an assumption that the CCC caters better for motorhomers than Comfort may? I can't make the comparison, because I sacked the CCC some years back when their premiums went sky high.

When we got our van I insured with comfort because they had a good reputation as a motorhome specialist insurer. The MD is a motorhomer, and the policy has considerable advantage in terms of the optional recovery package that, to all intents and purposes, is RAC Europe with, I think still, no restriction on vehicle size, and a fair interpretation of where one can go without requiring a green card.

Underwriter is AVIVA, which some have said don't give good service, by all who have had losses settled via Comfort seem to say the service they got was good. We're lucky so far not to have had to call on the insurance, or the recovery, so again, as above, I can't speak from experience.

However, if the business you refer to is insuring motorhomes, I'd say don't let that assumption put you off. I think they are among the best of the bunch.

Hi. Just renewed my insurance to-day. Present insurance with Comfort, but have been with Caravan Guard, and Saga in the past, I decided to get a quote from them before renewing, all details the same, cover very similar, Caravan Guard, £398.50. Saga, £377.06. Renewal with Comfort, £298..50. I told the others I will stay with Comfort this year and try them again next year.

Brian B.

PS. These prices included European cover, breakdown and recovery

Couldn 't agree more Brian. C&CC wanted nigh on double what Comfort charge me; Comfort's business *is* motorhome insurance. And in truth, C&CC insurance isn't C&CC at all...they simply license their brand to Vantage insurance (or to put it another way, Vantage offer a white label service to which C&CC add their brand).

they did not even ask about no claims ?

previous premium with nig was £315.

If you want insurance quotes that reflect your needs, you need to phone the companies and ask for a quote over the phone, and ask them to confirm the telephone quote in writing with a sample copy of the policy booklet. You then need to check the quotes, and read the booklets. Otherwise, you can have no idea of what is included/excluded from your cover, so no idea if the higher price includes a lot of things you don't want, or the lower price excludes half the things you do want.

There aren't that many general motor underwriters (though a few use Lloyds), so many of the "companies" will be providing the same basic product, albeit often tweaked to give the seller something that at least looks like a USP. Until you get the policy booklet, it is difficult to know who is underwriting what. Numbers off the net, IMO, are not the way to make a final selection, because the on-line proposals forms are seldom subtle enough to reflect individual needs.

Hi. Sorry slightly of topic, but it is insurance retated. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have just renewed my insurance with Comfort, as they offered the best value for money for me. What I do find is a bit of a rip off with some companys, is what they charge extra for. In my case some quoted extra as an age related charge. From memory I read somewhere, that the age group that I fall into is the safest where claims are concerned.! Plus I had to pass a medical and eye test to retain my C1, C1E,D1,D1E, entitlement, and I an quite a fit cyclist. The other thing they charge extra for is LHD. To my mind this is ridiculous, I think most people buy LHD, because they drive abroad a lot, In my case I do far more miles (KM) abroad, than I do in the UK. In my opinion it is much safer for us to drive a LHD M/H in the UK, where we are used to the road systems, junctions, roundabouts, signs, etc, than drive a RHD M/H abroad where everything is unfamiliar. Any case that can be put for charging more for LHD in the UK, must surely

apply to driving a RHD M/H abroad.? Perhaps those M/H owners should be charged more for that privalege. 8-)

the most important aspect of insurance since my saga with norwich union and another with swinton is to to get insurance where you have peace of mind that in a time of need and a claim is made you will get fast good service. and not have a long session of arguments where they look excuses not to pay and come up with hidden reasons why they will not pay.

cheapest price sometimes is a false economy, found that out twice over the years.
