SJI
I am using a 12 volt fridge operated from leisure battery in a small camper van. It works well except when not using the van for three days. Is there a way it can also be connected to mains in some way? Ideas and diagrammes would be appreciated.
lennyhb
It would help if you told us what type of fridge it is and what the current requirement is. You have 2 options you can use the fridge with a 12V power supply something like this would do if it's a cool box type drawing about 4 amps 5Amp power supply Or you could fit a decent charger for the leisure battery capable of supplying enough current to run the fridge & charge the battery. SJI
It is an Italian made fridge, widley used in the trade operating on 12 volt from the leisure battery. It is not a cool box or an extra.
lennyhb
What is the max power consumption (watts) or current (amps)? Is it a compressor fridge or absorption fridge?
crinklystarfish
Your post also implies that your leisure battery is not currently charged from the mains by any on-board charger. Is this the case? Do you have any kind of mains hook-up circuitry built into your 'van?
SJI
The unit is a Vitrifrigo model C42 L 12 input, 33w power if that helps. There are other figures on the fridge which I can provide if required. Many thanks to all.

crinklystarfish
Hi SJI,We need to know if you have any kind of mains hook-up built into your 'van. Can you plug a mains power supply into a socket on the side of / underneath your 'van? When you want to charge your leisure battery what do you currently do? Do you just have to run the engine or do you have a mains powered battery charger fitted? What 'van do you have anyway? that might help us to help you. lennyhb
The power supply I suggested above should be more than adequate.
SJI
Really grateful for all the help from you all. The van is a T4 and it has mains power at side with the usual trip etc and a double mains socket from it. The leisure battery is under the driver's seat and is fitted off a split charger from the engine battery. The fridge and two lights and water pump work of the leisure battery. There is currently no charger linked to mains. Thanks, sji
