Just had the cam belt changed on a T4 van , phoned round a few smaller independent garages for a price and they came back with prices of between £350 and £480 that,s with changing the water pump at the same time , thought i would check with the local V W van centre to see how much i was saving over a main dealer price and they came back with £360, had it done yesterday at the main dealer, they found a oil seal had gone so with that the total price came to £400 which for a main V W dealer I thought was a good price, when i went to pick the van up it was not finished and could see the guy working on the van when he had finished the belt change he checked everything brackes, exaust ,lights, wipers, allso checked out service prices and they were cheaper than I have paid at a small garage

My local VW specialist told me that VW have reduced the scope of their services to bring down the price. It might be worth checking what is covered by any quotes, and decide what you want done.

I got a very competitive quote for new tyres from my local VW dealer, but a rediculous quote for new brakes - double Kwikfit's price.

My last service was by a specialist. The one before was by VW but they forgot to reset the service indicator - a small thing but it really annoyed me because it makes you wonder if there's anything else that they didn't do.
