laimeduck Posted October 13, 2011 Share Posted October 13, 2011 Just returned from a very pleasant 2 week sailing holiday in The Ionian. Found that the main quay 38.921404,20.885603 at Vonitsa is used by motorhomes - Free parking, free water and quite secure as there are always plenty of yachts moored there - live-aboards & flotillas. No toilets but you can use the Taverna as below. Many Yachties, seem to take the motorhome down, then get on their yacht for a few weeks, then drive home. What could be better? The first Taverna you come to is excellent value ~ 32 Euro for a 2 course meal inc 1 litre wine for 3 people and the owners are really friendly & helpful. Regatta Taverna. If you want to see dolphin, this is the place to come: The Amvrakikos Kolpos ( an inland sea) is full of volcanic nutrients, thus fish & dolphin. We spent 45 mins with one pair playing with us just off the headland NE of Vonitsa. Oh..... and there is a resident Turtle in the harbour - every morning by the local fishing boats. ......and Kingfishers were using our warps as hunting platforms..... and Pelicans were out in the NW corner of the bay, ....and flying fish in the bay.......
