PeteH
Hi I am looking ahead a few years to when having to give up my LGV, (its already costing anything up to £100pa to renew) I will need to downsize from my beloved R-V. (9tonne!!) with this in mind I have been giving some thought to replacements. I can see my being able to retain C+1, as my own health is OK for now anyway. so a train of up 8.25t is feasable. I know there are some "light" R-V`s out there but having something just that bit smaller could have advantages.??? So, with a requirement for an island bed, largest bathroom due there being "mobility" issues. in mind what is available? I have seen a layout on a Mercedes "A" class chassis by I think Rapido but it does not figure on their current website. and a True "A" class layout would suit best. are there any others? Any suggestions? Pete
747
I am going in the opposite direction to you. I have a large m/home but would like an RV (driveable on C1). I have never seen a m/home (British or European) with a large shower cubicle let alone a spacious washroom. There may be some specialist builders who do that but the price of one will be mega. One other option (which I have considered) is to look at 5th Wheels. There will be no need for a C1 licence as B+E is sufficient. The main thing that put me off them was the poor standard of finish in the new ones I looked at. They are all top show and are cheap and nasty when you have a close look. They do however have more space for the money and the washrooms are more generous. When I asked, I was told that they will try to accommodate any reasonable changes in layout. You may be dead against anything like a 5th wheel but I thought it worth a mention. My health is OK at the moment but there is always a little black cloud lurking at the back of my mind. :D There are loads of RV's on dealers websites. I have not found one with the right layout. My other alternative is a self build. If it were possible for you to go down that route, you could have a washroom to suit your needs. Good luck. The cost will be frightening I guess!!! I looked at 5ers when I was looking for a Unit in the USA but there are issues with access for a lady with disabilities. so we have a Winnebago out there. pete
Den
The LeVoyageur from the Pilote group are just what your looking for, Island electric bed ( slides up thebrear wall of the MH slightly to give more floor space. The shower can be enlarged by 10 cm's, it was on our 950 series and the present one by 2 cm,s . You can specify your requirements, even traveling over to the factory and meet the designer. Hayes are the importer and are a very fine family concern with old fashioned values. Den

Randonneur
We have visited the factory where Pilote and Le Voyager are made and found them to be excellent in Customer Services. We have a Pilote with twin singles and large bathroom and the build quality is excellent.

We have always fancied one of these but sadly now that we have arrived at a stage in our lives where we can afford one as a diabetic and over 70 year old I can no longer drive one! flicka
Another posible option is Event Homes @ Scunthorpe - built to customer spec, (including disabled) typically on the Mercedes Vario or equivelent (~ 5.99 tonne and 7.49 tonne) http://www.eventhomesukltd.co.uk/index.htm Although their current pictures "under construction" of the Box Bug exterior doesn't appeal personnally, the interior looks different. art338
Colin, what prevents you from driving one? most are under 3.500 kg where a normal licence enables you to drive them and many diabetic people drive cars, they are a little larger but still driveable. art
Guest peter
Mel B - 2011-11-06 10:09 PM You've got a very 'big' boy there so what's the payload Peter? :-SNot a lot actually Mel, about 375 Kgs. But it can and will be uprated to 3850, the previous owner has already done the paperwork and paid for it. So all I have to do is notify the DVLA. I haven't had it weighed yet after fitting the towbar and air suspension. But like Robin Hood says, I can always put the heavy stuff in the toad. pheasantplucker
I came across a wheelchair user who has a motorhome with an extra-wide door, recently fitted with an electric lift and inside, apparently, the carpet in the rear of the living area lifts up and it becomes a wet-room. Made by an Italian firm but can't give you any more than that, sorry.
flicka
I think the motorhome, “pheasantplucker” may have seen would have been either a BluCamp (Italian SEA Group, but can not find a current UK importer) another alternative Maess (Belgium) imported by Saffron Motorhomes Tattershall Bridge Road, Tattershall Bridge, Lincolnshire, LN4 4JH, Telephone 01526 345000. They also produced a Low Profile for Nirvana, http://www.nirvanarv.com/autostand/wheelchair-accessible-motorhomes/lhd-oasis MMM’s review of the Dusseldorf show included the Chausson Suite, with the “Panoramic Window” Which has as a top hinged wide habitation door, but there were no photo’s of internal layout Possible convertors of existing Motorhomes. www.CoachbuiltGB.co.uk (Nuneaton) had a Swift Escape with an enlarged wide access Shower / Toilet.
