Gearbox oil level X250

I have located the gearbox/differential drain plug and what I beleived to be the filler/level plug on the side of the differential housing, slightly lower and to the rear of the driveshaft. Can someone (perhaps Euroserv) confirm that it is the for setting the oil level as on slightly removing the plug, to check the oil level, oil starts to pour out a lot faster than I would have expected if it was only slightly over this level.

The last I heard was that as the transmission is filled with the correct quantity of oil at the factory with no regular replacement. Therefore checking of levels is no longer required as long as there are no leaks. In the event of a leak it will be apparent and should be rectified almost certainly entailing dismantling when the oil will be one more replaced with the correct quantity.

There is some logic to it but I suspect the drive to reduce servicing costs to attract fleet buyers my have influnced the argument.
